"But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin."
____________1John1:7
i love this verse. it serves as the simplest reminder. who i am, what i'm called to, it is the simplest reminder. i love it.
this morning, PK asked the congregation to turn with him to matthew 5. all my biblical scholars out there know that matthew five is composed completely of Jesus' words. in my ESV, red-letter version that i keep in my car, this entire chapter is red.
suddenly it struck me. the words are so intimidating. so powerful. why so much heavier than my typical black lettering? because it's my God speaking. God as man. Scroll back up; whose blood purifies us from all sin? ALL SIN. that's right, it's the blood of my sweet, sweet Jesus.
it's the red. the power in the red-letter text, the trickle of his blood from his broken body as he hung there on the cross. it just gives you that tingle up your spine. all this brings me back to kevin's sermon from wednesday night.
those of us who drive are used to the basic command of a red light. maybe it's time we stopped in our lives with Christ and put off the all-too-familiar rush of our frantic schedules and came back to our Father. let's make sure that the red areas of our lives are wrapped up in what God has for us.
Come, my red-letter Jesus.
Nate.
