So I decided to whack Dannie's bio up here, 'cause I love him, and he's got one hell of a fanclub going. I know this will just make Alex fangirl him more, but she couldn't boycott him if she tried and she knows it.
DANNIE FRANCIS ROMA
AGE: thirty one
HAIR COLOUR: sandy brown
EYE COLOUR: blue
HEIGHT: 6' 1"
TATTOOS OR PIERCINGS?: he has a black outlined phoenix on his left shoulder and upper arm, and a celtic style sun between his shoulder blades
ANY DISTINGUISHING FEATURES?:
dannie is rugged on first appearance, but his age hasn't worn away at him too greatly. his military training gave him the strong physique he's grown used to, and he still works out on a regular basis so as to keep it. the most startling thing about his appearance are his vibrant blue eyes, that always give away his compassion, even when he tries to remain cold and stoic. he has two tattoos, a phoenix on his left shoulder and upper arm, as he has always respected and admired the image and meaning of the creature, and an outlined sun between his shoulder blades, that vincent has the twin of.

PERSONALITY:
at first glance, dannie is your typical soldier. he follows orders, he trains hard, he's not afraid to run in guns blazing, and he'd never leave a man behind. but every character is more complex than that, every soldier has a story. dannie's isn't all that remarkable, not yet, but it's shaped the man he is. growing up on numerous army bases, he learnt the importance of community very early on, respecting and regarding solidarity. this 'soldier complex' has always stayed with him, and if someone is in his circle, whether he likes them personally or not, he has their back. these ideals he honed since childhood were only strengthened as soon as he started his own military basic training. he's as loyal as they come, and has walked into the firing line to drag a friend out more than once. he's disciplined, but not mindless, and if he feels an order conflicts with him morally, he'll refuse outright to follow it through. he won't be coerced into doing anything that he thinks compromises his integrity. for this reason he has been close to court marshalling more than once, and accused of insubordination, but managed to still move high enough up the ranks to lessen the chances. his superiors know he's one of the best, so don't want to risk loosing him. he knows this of course, and frequently takes advantage of it, but in all honestly he just has little time or respect for empty threats, he likes things to be fair and honest in his eyes. he's incredibly determined in anything at all he decides to do. it may be the military influence, but he has learned to persevere through anything and never accept impossible for an answer. he's done and seen enough in his time to know what can be achieved, and has the strength to believe you can still push past the limits and do more. he's been in enough impossible situations, in which failure is not an option, so his determination and persistence have come as easy to him as breathing.
he's also very light-hearted most of the time, and doesn't like to let the stresses of the job, or life in general beat him down. he's seen things that would make most men cower and takes it all in his stride now. that's not to say he's cold, or even detached, but to a certain degree he's learnt not to let it eat away at you, or it can destroy you. since the moment he saw that abandoned girl shot before his eyes, and heard the screams of the death bound boys dragged back to the holding centre, he's known that there are things in the world, horrors, that can't be controlled. he knows it doesn't get easier the more you see; every shot you fire, every corpse you see stays with you, but the ability to stay outwardly collected gets easier. for this reason he drinks, because he's scared of what he'll see if he closes his eyes at night and thus sometimes has issues sleeping, so he uses whiskey to distract his mind instead, every soldier has his way of coping. but during the day, surrounded by his peers, he lightens everyone's moods with jokes, and any untenable or outright impossible looking situation can be commented on with sarcasm. he will never loose spirit in front of an enemy, rather spitting in their eye with a cocky grin than beg for his life. whenever it happens, his last words will be defiant and most likely delivered with a smug laugh.
RELATIONSHIPS:
JENNIFER ISABELLE || TWENTY-FOUR || SOULMATE || "there are so many things i wish i could say to izzie, and so many things i wish she could trust me with. i find her impossible, infuriating, unnecessarily defensive all the time. getting her just to have a straight forward conversation is hard work, it's a full time job knowing her, and it's frustrated me to the point i can't sleep, but i still can't bring myself to walk away. because, i don't know, somewhere in her i can see her want for it all, before she turns away from me, there's always a spark of something in her eyes, that tells me she doesn't want me to give up on her just yet. and there's something in the sound of her laughter that just seems to fit perfectly with my own, and when i'm pacing, stressing out and exhausted from sleep dep, seeing her own sleeping form can relax me far better than anything else. i think at this point, i'd do anything for her."
LEWIS NICHOLLS || TWENTY-NINE || RIVAL || "lewis is a jerk, i don't think it's possible for me to hate him more. izzie seems to like having him around, and for that reason i haven't knocked his head off yet, but give it time, i can't promise i can hold out forever. he seems to think he's some big hero, like he's done everything he can by her, that i'm dirt because i wasn't there at the beginning. he may have been there when they broke out of holding, but i'll be willing to bet he only took her for the company. there's nothing he doesn't do for some selfish reason, never to do good by anyone else. i won't be preached to by him, not when i can see how off his own morals are. he can judge me all he wants, it won't change the truth."
VINCENT JUDD || THIRTY-FOUR || BEST FRIEND || "i've known vince longer than anyone i'd reckon, from childhood. which with my upbringing is a rarity. moving from base to base on an annual basis, any army brat knows that the only people you know from childhood, you're most likely related to. but as it turned out, our dads were posted simultaneously, more than once, i don't know the ins and outs of why, but as a kid all i cared about was the fact i was allowed a constant best friend, instead of having to replace them with the closest equivalent when we removed. vince and i were thick as thieves, and we even signed up together. he's my partner in crime, my brother in arms, there's nothing more to it."
OVERALL HISTORY:
born in kansas, dannie was marked as a 2nd caste citizen from birth, his father being an intelligence analyst for the us army and his mother working most of her adult life as a holding centre attending. he spent the majority of his childhood moving around army bases, never really staying in one for more than a year. this suited his mother as she never risked emotional connection with the abandoned, as she didn’t stay long enough. despite the dictates of society and law, she was a sensitive woman who struggled to coldly shun those she grew to know, especially when they were only children. as she switched centres as often as her husband moved them, it worked to keep her detached. dannie on the other hand easily managed to bond with the other army children living on each base, forming solidarity despite members always drifting in and out of each group as the families moved about. childhood was simple for the army born boy, and the safety and comfort of the base community built up the playground for him and his ever changing group of friends. growing up the way he did, kept within the confines of base life, he was lucky enough in ignorance to have been sheltered from the real caste system outside. within the military base they were all 2nd caste, so he never crossed or interacted with those lower, or the emulated higher. despite his mothers work, he was also relatively oblivious to the abandoned within the holding centre, or at least the truth of what it was like in there.
this was until he was thirteen however, when one night two boys and a girl escaped the nearby holding centre and broke through into the base while he was out with friends. the sirens sounded to navigate everyone back inside, and the group scattered towards their individual homes, while a base wide search started instantly, lead by the holding centre attendings. on his way back home however, he crossed paths with the escapees directly in a parking lot. the boys he saw were frantic and desperate as they ran, but the girl was following blindly, trusting them get her out safely, with a wonderment that suggested she was amazed they even came that far. for a second they all froze as they noticed each other, dannie frightened of their greater number, combined with the horror stories he had heard, and the abandoned we clearly terrified of being caught. he was too shocked to sound the alarm however, even as the older boy dragged him into a fight to attempt to silence him. dannie naturally fought back as best he could, but the girl stopped them, pulling the other boy away, insisting they should just leave quickly. before they managed to scale the last fence however, his mother caught up with them. the girl was halfway up the fence when she was shot, and he watched in complete horror as the boys were then beaten down and dragged away by the swarming attendings.
dannie was silent on the way home, unable to say a word to his mother as he struggled to even align his thoughts correctly on the matter. once home however, his mother sat him down, and even though he remained unresponsive, she explained to him that she had a spilt second to make the decision resulting in her action, and she had only a second to save one of them. she explained how that the penalty for escaping from the holding centre was always death, and was carried out by shutting them up on their own, usually bricked up until they suffocated, dehydrated or starved. it was her job to bring them back for that very fate, as they couldn’t be allowed into the world. when she had arrived on the scene she literally had seconds before the rest of the attendings arrived to take one of them out in a much more humane manner, choosing instantly the girl. this memory of both horror and socially misplaced compassion always stayed with him, and served to help distort his views on the unmentioned lowest caste. he had always believed the abandoned something less than human, as the world believed, but there was something about the fear in the girl’s wide eyes, and the anguished screams of the boys as they lost their fight that seemed to him so very human.
at the age of sixteen he entered into his own military training, joining his best of five years, vincent judd, who had moved twice with dannie when their parents were posted to the same base each time. being two years older than dannie, vincent did it all before him as they both started at 16, so vincent had the head start over his friend. having basic training under his belt, dannie attended university of texas at 18. acing his class, he went straight into officer training, coming out a 2nd lieutenant at the end of it, and being transferred upon request to vincent's corps, where his friend was already a 1st lieutenant. he chased his childhood friend up the ranks, always catching up as vince was promoted ahead of him each time, and as it stands currently dannie is a lieutenant colonel to vince's colonel, still in the same corp.
