"I like Easter not only for the abundance of chocolate bunnies and Peeps (Dirk Manning loves Peeps... especially the pink bunnies!!!)... but because it also makes me think about my favorite zombie.
I am referring, of course, to Jesus.
Jesus is my favorite zombie.
Seriously.
I mean, he was tortured and killed in a pretty brutal fashion... and three days after being buried (or, if you want to be technical, stored in a cave) he rose from the dead to visit his friends once more.
Think about that for a minute.
HE ROSE FROM THE DEAD.
If that doesn't make you a zombie, what does? I mean, if I rose from the dead after being buried (I know, I know -- the cave bit) for three days I certainly wouldn't blame my friends for pleading with me not to eat their brains... or at least suck their blood or something.
Speaking of which -- Jesus rising from the dead, not sucking blood or eating brains -- did you ever notice how we don't hear much about Jesus after he came back? I mean, I'm sure some people that are Christian scholars know all the details... but I, as an everyday person, don't hear much about that...
I wonder what he did after he hooked back up with all his peeps again, you know? (Peeps being friends -- not the tasty sugar-encrusted marshmallows.) I mean, from what I understand he didn't spend much time with his mother in the last several years of his life with him doing the preaching and all (I'm being serious here -- watch the episode of A&E BIOGRAPHY of "The Virgin Mary" if you don't believe me), so I would like to think that he spent some time with her... but then what? Did he just wander away into the sunset? Did he keep preaching? Did he settle down with Mary M. and have a few kids? What?!?
Regardless, I'm sure some people -- perhaps even a few of my friends -- may get uptight about the Jesus/zombie comparison... but you know what? Jesus seemed like a pretty cool guy, and I'm sure he had a sense of humor.
Happy Chocolate Zombie Day everyone! Spend some quality time with your loved ones, kiss your kids, parents, and grandparents and tell 'em you love 'em (if your lucky enough to have any/all of the above) and, most importantly, laugh.
A lot.
Laughter heals the soul... even if it's laughter at some really distasteful things.
It's what Jesus would want you to do... zombie or not."
