yesterday hurt my legs. but I ended up with damn close to $200 by 11:30 last night. it's amazing what being in a good mood can do to peoples' generosity level. $35 on $65, $25 on $50. my co-workers are well on their way to considering me bad luck.
heh, so I "payed it forward" and bought some friends drinks after work, then slept for the rest of my life. woke up, bought my warped tour ticket on a random whim, watched the new AFI video again. the song gives me chills alone, and paired with the video, it is almost moving. can't wait until 6/6. now I'm previewing the new Less than Jake album, due out on the 23rd, and I'm trying to love it as much as I loved anthem. I'm not sure it's happening, but I'm probably comparing the two when I shouldn't be. musicians grow up. memories tend to polish themselves--maybe I like anthem so much because I tie it with the time period in which it was released. but there definitely is a decrease in the horn section, which...is always saddening.
while I'm on music, I'll go ahead and cover the Goo Goo Dolls' new release. I'm not into it. it made me appreciate Gutterflower so, so so much. those songs were written by the Goo Goo Dolls, and not Glen Ballard, like on Let Love In. Gutterflower was dark, cynical, and natural to the Goo Goo Dolls. Let Love In contains pop hits with relatively little depth, and I am disappointed in the lyrical value. but there ARE a few gems on it, I think, like "Better Days" and "Stay With You", and I like them because of the music moreso than the lyrics. I prefer liking a blend of both, but these songs didn't afford me that opportunity. and another thing--where the hell are the solos?! they're MIA and dammit, every minutely hard goo goo dolls song ever, has had a damn guitar solo. in place of the guitar solos, there is a piano breakdown, thanks to ole Ballard, and maybe a vocal breakdown. when the last song on "Let Love In" plays on my iTunes, it's immediately followed by an oldie called "just the way you are", and, well...it's a live version, and I think I like that song live with all the feedback at least 3 times more than I like Let Love In. they're just...different.
honestly, it's the only goo goo dolls album I've ever disliked.
sorry guys. it's not a rock record. give me a solo, kill the drum machine (seriously give Mike a chance!), tell Glen to go write some more hits for Alanis Morisette (she needs them), and make another record with just the three of you. please.
I think my feet have stopped hurting finally. was supposed to see the davinci code today with john and ross, but that didn't happen because everyone slept til 4. so. hehe, I have so much bouncing souls on my computer that in half an hour on shuffle, like a third of the songs that play are the souls. not complaining.
