Relationships - Yr doin' it wrong

Aug 03, 2009 10:53

I saw a wonderful instance of a relationship fail on the walk to the train this morning.  Couple walking along.  Train pulls into the station.  Woman starts jogging for the train, and given the line on the platform, she'll make it easily.

Man goes over to the newspaper box and takes out a paper.  He doesn't just take the paper, he stands there and starts looking over the headline.

Woman turns back and looks at him.  She jogs a few steps more and turns back again.  Man reads.  Woman takes a few more steps and turns back again.

Man says to woman "What?".  She says "Nothing.  I was just waiting for you."

I walk by, wincing.

A) Dude, you're being selfish.
B) Chica, you're being passive aggressive.  If you want to run for the train, tell him that this is something you want.  "Hey, let's get on this one."
C) Dude, don't pretend you didn't notice what she was doing.  If you don't want to run for the train, you have to say "Do you mind waiting for the next one?"  "What?" is not communication.
D) Chica, if he does that, saying "Nothing" will get you nowhere.  You'll just get resentful.  Tell him what he did, just don't nag about it.  The proper answer to "What?" is "I want to make this train, do you mind if we hustle?"

Seriously people, this isn't rocket science.  Just talk to each other.
