The Song Remains The Same

So, yeah, been a while livejournal. I keep getting worried that someday I'll type in the livejournal URL and it will be gone, along with over a decade of entries. Maybe I should find someway to back this stuff up.

Just a general update. Well, as of December 2013, I kind of accomplished a huge goal of mine: I work at the Centers of Diseases Control and Prevention. It's not a huge position, but the pay is decent and the stress level is minimal. My boss is fairly laid back, and I basically am able to listen to Spotify all day while I work, which has helped me catch up on music. They're also fairly chill with teleworking, which I've already taken advantage of a few times. Since I'm now technically a federal employee with a security clearance, I'm privy to a lot of positions and stuff that I would not have seen from the outside. I want to stay with this position for some time before moving on, though, so that's just what I'll do.

29th birthday this Wednesday. Is 29 a big deal? I guess it's the last year of my 20s, but 30 is the big one. New decade and all that.

As for the mundane, Kelli and I are looking to purchase a car in the next couple months, which is kind of exciting. We only really need one car. She needs it definitely since she works basically OTP. Most mornings, I'll carpool with her, then either run home (it's about 5-6 miles from CDC to Midtown), catch the bus, or if I'm feeling lazy, call an Uber X (which is surprisingly cheap and efficient on bad weather days). But on a bigger note, we're looking to buy a house/condo next year. We've found some good units for under 200K (preferably like to get under 150K), but it's probably not something we're really going to start researching until the middle/end of summer. Rent has gotten insane in many parts of Atlanta, and it makes more sense to pay for our own place for 10-12 years that we could eventually rent out.

Lots of weddings this year (though later in the year). John and Alessa. Rhiannon and Travis. Mark and Flora. People always ask about Kelli and I, and I just kind of shrug. We've been together 4 years, we're both on the same page, and in absolutely no rush to get married. We want to do the above stuff (car, house) first before a wedding. It wouldn't even be a particularly big wedding by any means, but we'd like it to be nice. Buying a house and car at the same time as saving for a wedding would be an impossible endeavor at this point. Besides, we don't really want any outside help for that kind of thing, it just complicates the situation.

Anyway, I know this is a fairly superficial update, but it's what is on my mind right now. Hope all of you whom I don't communicate with much are doing well. I'll try to update a tad bit more in the future.
