Trevor Dunn, Mary Halvorson and Ches Smith (Trevor Dunn's (its his, thats why his name is first) Trio Convulsant) silently came on stage and picked up their instruments.....Trevor then gave them an almost inaudible 1 and a 2 and a 3 count off...and off they went, into their own brand of twisted jazz with heavy power chords thrown in for good measure.......
i was on the left side of the stage (mary halvorson's side) so i got to see a lot of her. let me tell ya, the chord voicings she can pull off are totally amazing, then the next second she's nailing this hard powerchord sequence....
the drummer, ches smith, was a very co-ordinated drummer who was never off on a beat, this isnt easy considering the music being played.....theres nothing fucking STRAIGHT about it.....i just kept staring a mary's fingers and saying DAMN...i couldnt help but think "this is one of the best girl guitarists ive ever seen"
i had to talk about the rest of trevors band because his name is at the front, he played stand up bass and his bass playing was impeccable....how lucky am I that I was at the very front? shit, not that lucky...i just showed up on time and stood there...no biggie....
after about 15 minutes......Dale Crover came out, followed by new bassist Kevin Rutmanis and of course BUZZ.......i was right below Buzz the whole time, which was awesome....(not the first time id been that close to musical legends at the new daisy)....him and the bassist were wearing these big dress looking things.......when you see it, it looks normal, you dont see a dress....anyways, their entire set was wonderful......they played songs off stoner witch, stag, pigs of the roman empire, and few i couldnt name which apparently the rest of the crown knew....luckily i got some pictures and picked up the new melvins album for only 10 bucks....jeez i love buying music at shows.......
on another note...i got a job being a monster in the corn maze....i get paid to scare people! whoo!!!!
(almost 9dollars an hour )....and on a totally other note im reading this article about the misrepresentation of the israeli palestine conflict that i think everyone should read here
http://emperors-clothes.com/israel/karsh-occ.htm its interesting, not sure if i totally agree or what, yet...
