For the bench on Lexington at 23rd:

Traffic to my left,
Conversation to my right,
No one speaks English.

And with that, I think I need to swear off haikus for a while.

I suppose I can't blame you. I mean, 5 and 7 are really nice numbers, but I can imagine they'd get sort of tired after a while.

...that's not why. I like the structure a lot.

Then why did you and haikus break up? Were you dabbling in sonnets on the side and the haikus found out?

But don't you think you're being unfair to the other Arabic numbers are feeling sort of neglected? I'm rather partial to 3s myself.

...I am wary of three.

[Private to Rin]

The serious ones I've written lately have become...almost prophetic. I'm...a little unnerved.

What's wrong with three? It's a nice, well-rounded number. The Holy Trinity, the Three Musketeers, Goldylocks and the Three Bears. Threes are very appealing.

[Private to Kakashi]

"Prophetic"? Prophetic like Tarot cards prophetic or like that unhappy Greek princess prophetic or like statistical analysis prophetic?

...all of those inspire wariness in me. They also turn threes into cliches.

[Private to Rin]

.....I have no idea what the difference between those are.

Prophetic in the sense that the sentiment I was expressing suddenly became an epidemic among the student body. It weirded me out, and so I'm taking a break in an effort to maybe give them a break or at least preserve the element of surprise.

I have no idea why Golylocks and the Three Bears makes you nervous. Wait, this isn’t about the fork thing again, is it? Because I can assure you that porridge bowls are distinctly rounded.

[Private to Kakashi]

It’s a matter of perceived versus actual likelihood of the prediction coming true.

What did you predict, exactly? Endless amounts of unresolved interpersonal tension? Because, no offense, but I can do that, too: “lip gloss and making out are going to be huge this spring!” Thank goodness we have the haiku gods on our side or the world would be lost to chaos.
