Since it's, uh, me and I tend to never 'ship anything- well, F/K is probably the only thing I 'ship hardcore, though I'll read anything. ANYWAY.
These are my recs! A lot of them you'll see from elsewhere, but they're all great stories which is why everyone recs the hell out of them. Everything is slash and likely contains porn, and therefore it's par for the course in the DS fandom.
[ETA: Now with quotes!]
American Way [resonant]
"So, see, it's totally simple. Fraser pretends to be my partner, which he is, and then he pretends to be American, which he's not, and then nobody runs away."
Baresark [laura jacquez valentine]
He took it, too, punching me in the shoulder which meant I could jump on him and pummel him, which if you remember being thirteen you also remember means "time for some vaguely homoerotic body contact".
Being Benton Fraser [theodosia]
I never honestly thought oatmeal could taste this good. “What did you put in this stuff, crack?”
The Bodyguard [speranza]
Ray braced one hand on the beer-soaked bar. "What you got over there? Terrorists? Killers? Mad bomber?"
"Olga," Fraser said inexplicably.
Can't Stop Falling [starfish]
"Can you tell me what happened, sir?"
"Yeah, there's -- my mechanic, Carlos. He's in there. He's, uh, dead, I guess."
Chicago's Most Wanted [speranza]
Ray lifted his head and glared at him. "You stole thirty-two million dollars, Fraser."
Fraser coughed and looked away. "Well--thirty-seven actually. And change. You missed about five million or so." Fraser flexed his tightly laced fingers a couple of times and bit nervously at the corner of his lower lip. "I was going to point that out, Ray, really. At a...well, at a more appropriate time."
Correspondence [china shop]
Fraser, you big freak
Why won't you talk about this face-to-face, huh? My bet's you're hiding som You know I Hate paperwork.
The Dotted Line [pares]
I feel the time is right to move on, and so I am leaving the 'groovy' urban land of Chicago for the frozen tundra.
First [ardent]
It was one thing to have sex with a freak. It was completely another to have sex with a freak who saw -- and talked with -- dead people.
Form 1879 C [barb g]
"Fraser, when they say 'wait for backup', they usually mean wait for more people besides yourself and your stupid, blindly following partner to go inside a dangerous situation. I thought we went over this three years ago."
Gun, With Occasional Kangaroo: A Love Story [punk]
"We got a case," Ray told him. "Dead guy in the carpet district."
"I wasn't aware Chicago had a carpet district."
"Nah, it ain't official or nothing," Ray said. "I just bought a rug there once."
Housekeeping [resonant]
"To what do I owe the pleasure of this visit?"
"Just came to tell you to duck and cover."
How Ray Got His Groove Back [aristide and bone]
Porn was definitely the answer.
Just Like Steve McQueen [estrella]
If Ray somehow managed to get out of this alive he was seriously going to kill Fraser.
Ray groaned and shut his eyes again. Stuff like this almost never happened to Steve McQueen.
La Langue de l'Amour (The Language of Love) [china shop]
“Salut, Ray,” said Frannie, when he walked in the station, “Eh, on dirait que tu t'es fait passer dessus par un camion!”
Like A House On Fire [beth h and kellie matthews]
Ray shrugged. "Well, I was in the neighborhood, so I thought I'd stop by."
"Ray, there is nothing in the neighborhood," Fraser said, still trying to wrap his brain around the idea that Ray, Ray Kowalski, was standing on his front stoop.
Ray grinned. "Canada's a neighborhood."
A Moment of Insight [speranza]
"Cause I wouldn't want to get in the way of the great job you're doin'," Ray sneers as the agents move to unlock his cuffs. "I got two dead women in Chicago what with such a great job." The cuffs click open and fall away, and Ray rises from his seat, rubbing his wrist. "I'm so fucking impressed."
The Outline of a Circle [pearl-o]
Fraser paused for a long moment and then said, "You know, Ray, most researchers on the subject believe that love -- there isn't a finite level of it; it's ever expanding. My friendship with Ray Kowalski doesn't take anything away from my friendship with you."
Ray gave him a quick, fond look. "I know that, Benny. Come on, finish your eggs so we can get going."
Parental Guidance [alanna and starfish and kass]
"So what if -- wait a minute. My mother took you where?"
"I think the name of the store was 'Country Curtains' -- I'm sorry, Ray, is it a problem?"
Ray shook his head to realign his brain. "Fraser, why would my mother take you shopping?"
"She seemed to value my opinion," Fraser said, sounding a little insulted by the question.
Pas de Deux [sihaya black]
Resisting the urge to check his hair - for Christ's sake, this wasn't a date - Ray slung the jacket over his shoulder and started back down the hall. Halfway down the hall, he stopped. What was he, some fuckin' male model? With a snort, he shrugged on his jacket and rounded the corner.
Ping! [speranza]
And the nice, responsible defense attorney stands up in his nice tan suit and offers his hand to Fraser over the desk--and I got ringing in my ears.
Fraser's going ping, ping, ping.
Return Home [barb g]
Chicago feels wrong. It's already in a late spring heat-wave, and I roast in my sweater all the way back to my place.
Shopping for Mayhem in Aisle Four [shrift]
"Your hair color is new. Your underwear is new."
"You really wanna broadcast that in the middle of Dominick's?"
Sixteenth of June [resonant]
"Sixteenth of June, eighty-seven," Ray said. "Five-thirty. St. Bartholomew." The truck was braking sharply. "Our folks don't even know how to talk to each other, but we don't care. I'm crazy in love and she still thinks I'm -- I dunno. Some kinda --"
The truck was stopping now, and we both stood as we heard the latch turning and saw the first bit of daylight under the hatch.
"Some kinda daredevil hero superman guy, I dunno -- All right. On three. One -- two --"
Slice [brighid]
"When we got married, Stella picked where we registered, what we registered for. She picked the patterns, the pieces, the styles. And I went along with it, and never really fit into it. The story of our marriage -- she couldn't make me fit, y'know?" He grins at me again, and I am, despite my own misgivings, pleased to see this last shadow lifted from him. "In fact, I suspect the cow plates were an act of rebellion, when I think on it."
Sole [anagi]
So, Fraser wore the boots, Ray covertly longed for them, and Dief openly watched this bizarre little scenario unfold, but remained thankfully quiet on the subject.
The Teeth of the Hydra [resonant]
Ray'd never had a girl for a friend before. He couldn't exactly wrestle with her and call her names, like he did with Chip Szujewska up the street, who'd been his buddy since second grade. But when he remembered some story of his mom's and offered to carry her books for her, she looked at him like he had three heads and said, "What for?"
True North [crysothemis]
He'd made one stop on the way. One stop that was a big part of the panic he was feeling now. Because now that the adrenaline had washed out of him, he knew it was one of the stupidest ideas he'd ever had.
The Vecchio Problem [china shop]
"It's not that I wouldn't," Ray added quickly. "I mean, you're a great guy. Different circumstances, compatible nationalities, certified mental health guarantees, and I'd be in like Flynn."
