dando gracias

had "thanksgiving dinner" tonight, at a gringo restaurant downtown, sponsored by the study abroad program. it was a little disappointing. it just wasn't ... home. family. and i didn't really have time to dar gracias -- give thanks.
so here goes:
I noticed on the bus coming back how nice the slight weight this tie pulls on my collar, it makes me feel strong. I am thankful that I am one of the few people on this Earth whose parents can afford to give their son a silk Italian tie for his birthday. It's hard to comprehend how amazing of a hand I've been dealt in life.
I'm thankful to have been afforded such amazing opportunities here on the other side of the world. Again, I'm one of the extremely privileged few who have been given this chance, and I'm thankful to have been given the foresight and support to take advantage of it. my world is so much bigger now.
i'm thankful for my host family, especially my mom, who has put up with all my laziness and lack of cooking skills and messy room for over four months, and is one of the most genuinely nice people I've ever met.
I'm thankful for the internet. That sounds really dorky but it's made me realize how many friends I have who I will be so happy to see soon. It seems like lots of the Portland gang is going to be around this winter break, which is exciting. All who have turned 21, we're going to a bar. Let it be known.
I miss all of those things now but am happy and thankful to be me.
So, Non-Denominational Higher Power, thank you.
Now, I'm going to take a much needed moment of silence to reflect and then pass out in bed.
I hope that all of your thanksgivings are thankful and family-filled.
what are you thankful for?
