This is coming at you live, from Pierce College Puyallup campus. It was in this very room yesterday that I took so long to finish my homework (the class was actually in session at the same time) that I couldn't turn it in. Shitty. But I got to hang out with Jack like olde tymms. Here's a surprise: he hasn't changed. But hey, why mess with a good thing, right?
Anywayz this is the first update in a long time, so here it goes:
I'm working 40+ hours a week at Quiznos, attending Pierce at nights, and experimenting with Love. I work with a kid named Brett Redford, he's really cool because he's passionate about underground rap, and he is proficient at beat-making, as well as Tyler Lamar's little brother Sean, and the charismatic Baker sisters. Ah, the youngest Baker. Nosilla. She's my girl. Who cares about titles and officiallity, she owns my heart. I hang out with Matt Sparkes very frequently. He's a cool dude, almost like a version of me that can deal well with people. My mom still likes to throw insults at me, berating me for not making the most of my opportunities. She doesn't understand that I have only one life, that I'm not afraid, that I'm finding happiness. If success is defined by her life, than I don't want to follow the same path. My Dad seems a bit more understanding, taking me one day at a time. He's a pretty cool guy. I'm glad my parents didn't seperate when I was much younger, because if one were to hear only my mom's side, he would be equitable to the great Chiton himself.
My life is pretty cool right, now, but it lacks variety. This routine is starting to get to me, but I'll keep to it just to prove I can.
I've been reading less often than I should. I really don't have any free-time. Man, getting into a real college will feel very good.
I may have found a new passion. I just stumbled upon a topic of which I know almost nothing. International Trade, and particularly the growth of China. China is outpacing all other nations in growth, and it has four times the population of the US. Annual growth for the PRC is around 10%. For the US, it's about 2.3%. More than four times the growth, more than four times the population, less than half the taxation. the World Bank predicts China will have the largest GNP by 2020. Clearly they are overtaking us. Is there anything we can do to stop growth in China?
Fuck no. And why would we want to? When China has the biggest economy on the planet, to be quickly followed by huge growths in technology and military, do we really want to be an enemy? Finally the effects of Imperialism are wearing off, and along with them the rose-tinted glasses the West sees itself through. We can no longer afford to cling onto our current assumptions. The rest of the world deserves a chance. Just a chance. They should be allowed to fuck up their own lives, in any way they desire, without constant pressure from Industrialized nations which only undermine Capitalism through oppressive policies like tariffs against flagging economies and subsidies to keep us competative. Hey, heres a concept: COMPETE!! The fuckfaces in office in Europe and here are not ignorant to the world of the future, but they seek to "protect" our home economies, by closing their eyes to what's happening everywhere else and establishing trade blocs. Trade blocs are primarily meant to be exclusionary. Organizations such as the European Union, and the Free Trade Area of the Americas only benefit member nations, causing greater strife around the world.
Meanwhile taxes on the producers to benefit the non-producers is draining our economy. Somehow we became identified with our government, an institution which exists only to protect our rights. Nobody has the right to decide who will work and who doesn't have to. The sides are choosing their friends, their enemies, and their weapons. There is only one obvious conclusion. WIthout serious change in political thought we are going down. Where we'll land is anybody's guess.
Carter's reforms: Well here they are. Carter-god's recommendations: Politicians shall not be allowed to own property. They must live in Barracks resembling lower-middle class homes. They should have no comforts which are not available to the common people. Their lives will be monitered at all times. They must have an independant source of dissemination for their ideas, direct accountability, and no difference amongst politicians in the ability to campaign.
Only soldiers or people who have served the public will be allowed to become citizens. If you haven't contributed anything to a country, you cannot be allowed to determine who get's something from it.
Reproduction limitations will be a prerequisite for recieving aid. Birth control should work in reverse, forcing a person to make a decision to allow pregnency. Each person will be granted between .75 and 1.25 reproduction credits, determined by population pressures and availiable food supply. These credits can be bought or sold in a structured open market.
Any and all Barriers to trade should be abolished. Patents should be severly limited, most especially with regards to medicine and medical technology. Humans who are not allowed to own property and have no national affiliation will control the exchange rates of currencies, but only to match money supply to actual wealth.
Leaders shall be chosen at a young age and trained to lead. They will have no property, no ties, and no desires. The leader will be chosen by a direct vote of the people.
Education will be radically changed. Education will exist for two purposes: 1) to sort people according to their abilities and needs, and 2)to prepare children for their role in society. A combination of Religion and psychology seems best for this goal. It should be assumed, in a belief structure, that all people are different, and are therefor capable of different things. One person can not enforce rules of any kind over another simply because they disagree with that person's inalterable world-view.
Education fosters religion, and religion has everything to do with politics. Politics form and respond to economic systems, and economic systems determine individual expression.
These ideas aren't really new. If you are shocked or surprised, I advise that you read Plato's Republic.
