To a Mouse-Brain
By Sean Geoffrey Sagan
April 15, 2010
Ms. Palin who tastes quite like snow,
A mouse haired ice-queen dontcha' know
Well she deserves the old heave ho
In Boston Harbor, She should go
And big ol’ Rush’s monstrous girth
Old Scratch himself hurrahed his birth
Though stuck in Oxycontin dearth
He quivers in malicious mirth
Let’s not forget the Beckerheads
Who deify their figurehead
And though pronounced By him braindead
Open their souls and wallets; bled
You poor lost folk, you cannot see
The truth it never touches thee,
For best laid schemes of mouse-brained men
Will fall and crumble in the end

Long time, no post. I felt I should begin with a little verse, hope y'all (however few of you remain) enjoyed it. A quick update.
The engagement is going well. Jenna and I have set upon a date, a location, a caterer and are in the process of meeting with photographers and dj's. The wedding parties are mostly set and we are in the process of determining the makeup of the ceremony, ie. more religious for her friends, less so for mine. We determined to do away with the Kabalat Panim and Tisch(roughly greeting of the bride and groom respectivily), keep the bedeken(veiling ceremony) and of course the Chuppah ceremony(actual wedding) and use her family's Reform Rabbi. Jenna's family is as Reform/Secular as me and mine, however, many of her friends are Conservative/Orthodox. We're doing away with bentching(blessings) after the reception as well. He friends will survive somehow. Oh, and everyone Kosher/Vegetarian/Vegan/Gluten Free (This is what we liberal Jews have done to the culinary world) gets a vegan stuffed mushroom.
Other news, I was recently - before Passover -accepted to Religious Studies program at UC Riverside for graduate studies in Religion in American Politics and Civic Culture. Over the course of the next 5 or so years, I'll be working towards both an MA and a PhD. They cave me a Fellowship and a TAship. Aside from having to move to or close to the 909, I'm really excited.
The only issue is that Jenna is having lots of trouble finding work as a teacher. Riverside Country is not hiring and though she is trained for both public school and Jewish day school, there are no Jewish day schools to speak of in the Inland Empire. That leaves hoping for something in OC or LA but jobs are scarce in both areas and even if she gets one, that leaves a particularly nasty commute. But still, a commute is better than no job. So we shall see. Somehow, we'll figure it out, I'm sure.
