I had to... this was a good episode.
The episode opens with Riza making a grave. Mustang comes along and tells her they have to go and wonders if the grave is a comrade. Riza tells him it's an Ishbalan Kid. Mustang tells her the war is over and they can leave. Riza tells him that for her the battle isn't over and won't be for a long time. She trusted him with her father's research and joined the army to safe her people. Even if she didn't wish for this outcome, she can't run from it either and can't atone for what she did. She tells Mustang she has one request. "Would you please burn my back?" is her answer and Mustang is outraged about it. She begs him and tells him so that a new flame alchemist won't be created, she want's to destroy the secrets from her back. Mustang agrees and tells her he will burn it until as little as possible is left.
The scene goes back to where we left Riza pointing a gun at Mustang. Mustang asks her what she's doing and if she knows who she is pointing the gun at. In a twist, Riza tells Mustang that the colonel always calls her Riza when they it's only the two of them and Mustang turns into Envy. Envy says: "So that's the kind of relationship you two have" and Riza replies with: "I lied". A battle breaks out between the two of them.
Mustang arrives and starts blasting Envy again. He reaches Envy and asks him what he was doing to his precious subordinate. Envy knowing about his fate says to Mustang: "You humans always looking down on me" and gets a full close-up flame bashing over and over and over again.
The green thing pops out and is trying to escape. Mustang steps on him and is preparing to finish him and then Riza points her gun at Mustang. Mustang asks her what is she doing and Riza tells her that she will take care of it for him. He wants nothing of it and is about to strike when the ground shifts and Envy is freed. Ed and Scar arrive on the scene and Ed catches Envy.
Mustang says to Ed to hand Envy over to him and he is still bend on revenge. Ed refuses and Mustang says: "I must give him the worst form of death possible." and Ed refuses again. Mustang is pissed and tells Ed he'll burn of his hand then. Ed is not backing out and tells Mustang to bring it! But before that to take a look at his face, does he intend to take over the country with a face like that?! Isn't that what your goal is? Mustang has a flashback and sees himself talking to Hughes and he is saying: "Those at the bottom should protect those at the bottom. Even for people as small as us, we should be able to do that." and Hughes reply he can't wait to see his youthful ideals will change the country.
Scar has a few words for him: "If you give into the anger, you will fall on the level of an animal. That's alright with me. If you want to live for revenge, I won't stop you. I don't have the ability to stop another person's revenge. However, what kind of world will a man taken in by hatred create if he leads others?" and Mustang wakes up from his hatred. Riza tells him she won't allow him to kill Envy. But she won't let him live either, she will take care of it. Mustang is feeling cornered, but Riza won't allow him. He sees some flashback of Hughes being Hughes.
He tells Riza to shoot him, but what will she do after that. She tells him she has no desire to continue living carefree by herself. She says that when the war is over she will erase the flame alchemist from this world and her body along with it. In a burst of frustration Mustang fires into an empty hall. He tells Riza that it won't do. He can't loose her. He's being yelled at by a kid and lectured by a guy bend on killing him for revenge (meaning Scar). He's forced Riza to go through painful emotions again and he's come to realize he was a big idiot. He walks over to her and points her gun down and apologizes.
Envy calls them idiots and goes into a tirade and trying to goad them into fighting again and starts pointing out incidents that happened. He notices nobody is reacting to his words and starts asking, why?
Ed calls out to him and tells him that he's jealous of humans. That humans are inferior to Homunculus, but we'll keep on standing after going through rough times. Envy hears all of the things he has said before in the past and the word 'humans' always pops out of his mouth. He forces his way out of Ed's grasp and fall on the floor.
Scar tells them he doesn't have long to live. Envy starts crawling and feels humiliated. He starts crying and realizes that he, Envy has been jealous of humans. He can't cope that he's being understood by a brat, Ed and its the utmost humiliation for him. He takes out his philosopher stone and starts to fade away and says goodbye to Edward Elric.
We switch to Sloth's battle with the Armstrong's. Sloth healed himself and more soldiers are coming into the place. Major General Armstrong tells them she will be taking command of this place and with that more of the creepy dolls come through the door. Alex starts fighting them and Major General Armstrong tells them to go for their jaw, they won't be able to eat them (hehehe good logic). Sloth remembered what he was supposed to do and heads over to the general but Alex has his chains around his foot. Sloth starts attacking Alex with no mercy. Sloth goes in for the final blow and Alex shifts his body so that the blow falls against his shoulder. He dislocated it and now it's back in place and he's ready to go! He starts punching Sloth left and right and left then right and then left again. he hits Sloth with what he considers "artistic muscles and the artistic alchemical collaboration. Excellento ando Eleganto".
Command Center is receiving some attacks from a tank believing to be from Briggs. The order is to attack back without a care that there are still people evacuating. In comes the big clawed dude from Briggs and tells the guy he will broadcast that on the radio as well (hehehe). He wonders how they manage to get inside Central and the clawed dude tells him with the help from a former Central member (one of Mustang's men, Havoc or I can't remember now) and after that they had someone dig them a hole and emerged here. He can't believe it and tells them there is no one who can do that.
"When they asked who I was, I told them I was a housewife. That's just my personal etiquette. Just for today I shall venture and tell you who I am. I'm an Alchemist!"
You tell them Izumi Curtis!
The episode's credits start rolling but we still see Hohenheim walking in the tunnel and arrives to where "father" is. Father sees he's alone and he tells him he was expecting him to bring the brothers. They start name calling each other, the thing inside the flask, slave number 23, but "father" tells Hohenheim that today he will become part of his body.
OMG!!! This was the best epiode ever!!! There was tons going on at once and I'm happy with the storytelling, they are not just only focusing on one team, but focuses on 3 of them in this episode! Brilliant!
This episode is dedicated in loving memory of Maes Hughes. May your smile brightened up heaven's sky. You will be forever loved and missed, dear friend.
