John leans against the wall and watches Rodney yell at his underlings about wormhole flummoxes and fluctuating gadgermabobs and quantum reversed whatsamahoozits. He fondles his sidearm distractedly and frowns.
Sometimes he’s still not quite sure what Rodney sees in him - and whatever it is, it’s definitely not his brain. Sure, he can handle the numbers and the raw math, but he couldn’t understand the things Rodney does if he tried.
Rodney looks up at him then, and catches his gaze. He rolls his eyes and John smiles sympathetically; partly for Rodney, but mostly for the other scientists. They’re average, too.
