Yes, just like Harry, I'm disappointed that Snape has changed his appearance. Although, it not like Harry was terribly attached to Snape's old looks. Harry, on a couple occations, expressed how and why he shouldn't be attracted to Snape. I recall Harry's comments about Snapes nose and him saying something along the lines of "and your toes are too long," while listing things he finds unattractive about Snape. Near the end of his imprisonment, Harry even tells Snape "Your ugly as fuck." Those words Snape took personally and they hurt to hear from the one he loves. Snape's knows he's not the most handsome man but it still hurt to hear, especially from Harry.
I can see why Snape would change his appearance to be more attractive ... well, a step up from before at least. Snape now looks more "normal," in Harry's words. Snape isn't so vain that he would need to be the hottest man in town. He's looking more to blend in than to stand out. Even being unattractive can make you stand out.
So, in the end, I don't think Snape's looks are going to hinder their future relationship because their relationship occurred despite their looks. Keep in mind that, to Snape, Harry looks like James Potter.
He mainly said that because at the time he was hesitant with their relationship and possibly being gay. He never stated it aloud but there were many times were he said Snape's body was strange but somehow perfect at the same time. Plus he even thought in this chapter that Snape had been sexy before. So I think the Harry who said those other things was mostly too afraid to give into his sexuality.
Oh I agree. Harry is completely confused throughout his imprisonment and falls in love while in that stressful environment. So of course he blames the circumstances for the change in his thoughts and body and he isn't able to test these new feelings in a stable setting. Harry lashes out at Snape in his confusing and the stress of his situation. I remember Harry said those things aloud because I remember them in Invictus.
I'm just saying that Snape didn't find much stock in keeping his looks. It didn't help that Harry called out his imperfections. If Harry had said that he loved Snape's nose, then I sure Snape would have kept that the same in the hope of attracting Harry. So, I'm sure Snape thinks the normalizing of his features may help him in the long run ... in the hope that maybe one day he may get his shot with Harry. One of Snape's reasons for leaving Harry was to allow Harry to find someone more worthy: young, beautiful (like Ginny), and not a reformed Death Eater.
Of course the plastic surgery was a practical move too, like he explains, but I can't help but think that he changed some of the things that Harry has pointed out.
