This post of yukionna's is a really fun gathering of people, making wish lists, and then reading the others and seeing what, if anything, they can help make come true.
I heartily recommend going through it when you have some time.
This is what I posted:
--I need more friends in the Berkeley Springs, WV area. [People looking for affordable land, gorgeous mountains and forests, and an awesome art town, check it out! (Growing up in Texas, and moving to Manhattan at 19, this is the first time in my life where my vote actually counts. So, if someone is looking to be in one of the states where it's not a foregone conclusion which way they'll jump...)
We moved here a few months ago, and love it...but I am not very good at reaching out to strangers, breaking the ice with them, and making them my friends in meat space. On the other hand, if someone would like to come visit our corner of the world, I have a large house with plenty of crash space. I'm not gonna lie, it's full of clutter and many uncompleted projects, but its comfortable and I'm an awesome cook (or so I'm told).]
--Anyone know any social work jobs within an hour's (maybe even an hour and a half) drive of Berkeley Springs, WV? One of the only friends I do have here is losing his job as the company he works for goes through its slow death throes. He's got a lot of experience working with developmentally delayed adults and is truly excellent at it.
--Probably also related to my feeling the lack of social interaction, I'd love some kind of buddy [online is fine] to talk to and keep each other on target with [and excited about] goals, be they artistic or domestic or workforce project based.
and
As much as I love my town, I do miss being able to get anything on demand.
Thus, interesting spices and teas would be very welcome...
Also, awesome vegan cookbooks [or tried and true recipes] would be wonderful. I'm not strictly vegan, but we appear to be leaning more that way of late, and it's an area of my cookbook collection that is empty right now.
ooh, for that matter, any truly beloved recipes would be really fun to have. Most of my recipes at this point come from experimenting and cookbooks, and thus lack the personal backstories I would enjoy them to have [even if they are fictional].
For that matter, although this breaks a bit the 'physical' theme I was hoping for in this post, someone to partner with me in writing an alternate history cookbook would be fun. A friend and I had the idea a year or so ago, but he's since decided he does not have the time, and I still think it's an exciting adventure of an idea.
I have been sending out more snail mail lately, and really enjoying it. Thus, mailing addresses for people who might enjoy a random sketch or some calligraphy sent them would be welcome. Also giving my address to others who enjoy to send them would be wonderful, as my mail box is usually just bills and mundanity. Getting a bit of sparkle occasionally would be really inspiring and fun.
