Tales of Auli website and general update

Dec 12, 2005 10:29

If you haven't checked my away messages lately, I've been working a LOT on the Tales of Auli website, many thanks to Craig for allowing me some temporary webspace to work on it. The plan behind the page is to get a decent visitor count so any agents who visit the site will see that our work already has a bit of a fanbase and would be worth investing time and/or money in. Sal and I are possibly planning on putting the novel up in pdf format, 1 chapter a month for free, and after that month is expired setting up a paypal account so people can buy the chapters, probably like 1$ per chapter or something (which would mean the whole book would be 20$, a little less than most hardcovers go for nowadays.) Hopefully once we get this plan implemented it will further our arguments to agents that our work is worthwhile, if not, maybe eventually we'll have enough money from the proceeds to self-publish. That would take... *busts out the calculator* about 60 downloads of the book, in its entirety. ... Wow, that's not as many as I was thinking. Proof of my awfullness at math.
Well, if you are interested, the temporary home of the page is here http://techgirl.taryx.com/Index1.html . When I get paid on Friday I'll be buying www.talesofauli.com, which sounds considerably more legit than what it is currently. I'd like to thank all you computer-savvy people who have been helping me with source codes and what not, and Sal for helping me write some of the content. I'll be updating again when I have time and adding the Plot and Languages section, and adding some to the Magic section and the History one. Sal is working on some more images so those will be up sooner or later (probably not until late January or thereabouts) as well.

Let's see, other stuff... Daniel and I are still doing fine, my Christmas checklist is progressing.
Daniel: 5 gift ideas, 2 of which the materials have been bought but I haven't had a chance to make them yet since he always seems to be around when I want to work on them.
Mom: done.
Dad: done.
Eoin: done.
Sal: done.
Kylah: Idea in place, but don't have the money to get them yet.
My 3 cousins want a PS2, so I'm getting them that and 3 games, one for each of them. This is the most expensive gift on my list, but seeing as how I forgot to get them birthday presents this year, I guess they deserve it.
Aunt Paula and Uncle Derek: I have no idea what to get them. :(
My Dad's whole side of the family: Lottery tickets. w00t.

Unfortunately this is about all I can realistically afford. I may be getting other friends Christmas presents sporadically throughout the year, but my money situation isn't so great. I love my job, but it just doesn't pay as well as I need. I'm looking into two other jobs atm...
1. Veterinary Assistant. I've heard that some vets will give you on-the-job training for this, but my lack of a biology degree might hurt my chances. On the other hand, my possession of a degree in general might help, and I was ALWAYS good at physiology in school. ^^ Plus I've wanted to be a vet most of my life, the only reason I didn't try to major in vet sciences was because I am so bad in math and chem, and my vet back home told me that both of these things are important to getting your degree. :(
2. Tattoo artist. Yes, I know, this one came out of left field, eh? I met some people at Jo-Anns the other day who own their own local tattoo shop, and I was asking them some questions. After an 18 month apprenticeship (sometimes a little less, sometimes more, depending on how quick you pick it up) you can become a full-fledged tattoo artist. I've always been good at copying art, but not so great at making my own, we know this. But from my experiences at tattoo parlors, it mostly seems to be tracing and very, very little original artwork. I'm pretty good at coloring too, which will help. So this is a possibility.
Also, both of these are jobs I can bring anywhere!

When our lease is up in either June or July (I forget which) Daniel and I might be looking for a house to rent as opposed to this crappy apartment deal. We're getting sick of hearing one neighbor scream obscenities at her children, the other beating the crap out her sister (or whatever) and smoking pot on their front doorstep, and just the general annoyances of living in an apartment. (Although this townhouse is much bigger and nicer than the last apartment, the kitchen is still too small. Waaaay too small.) Plus we'd like to have our own washer and dryer and not have to go to the laundromat, which costs 4$ to wash and .25 cents for each FIVE MINUTES in the dryer. Ick.

Looking forward to the trip to California in January. Haven't been playing much FFXI due to trying to get all my presents finished, working on the website, or working on the final copyedit of the book itself. Hmm... anything else...... Nope, don't think so. ^^ (End Transmission)
