Sewing Update - Tailcoat

Jun 18, 2008 12:34

Stillllll working on the tails. They hate me. Was ripping seams for an hour and a half last night (according to fourlegs. Finally got all the seams ripped, the thread tuffs plucked from the fabric and then I folded the new seam line, glued it and let it sit overnight.

I should ahve probably glued the seam fold for the faux wool too but my brain started shutting down at that point. I just kept turning the tail around on my desk, so I called it a night.

Hopefully, when I sew it this time, both layers will stay folded correctly and the thread will catch everything correctly so that it lays properly. Once that happens I can attach the tails to the lining. If I get more grief from the tails tonight I think I will go work on the lamb lapels, as that is the only thing left to do at this stage. Until the tails are done, I can't justify attaching the shell to the lining. Attaching the tails after that is more work that its worth, just to feel like Ive accomplished another step.

But soon. The tails can only rebel so long before I defeat all its antics.

Note for future projects that involve sewing faux lambswool. Find some kind of clip that will hold the seam fold in place without interfering with the sewing machine needle.

Trying to pin that much thickness into a proper position is pretty much impossible. Glue is a decent technique but if you make a mistake you better hope the parts taht have to be pulled back open are not going to be showing on the outside of the garment. The faux leather gave up some of its "leather" in spots when I pulled the seam up last night.
