another sewing update

Been working on the tailcoat all weekend. Yesterday I finished attaching the pieces of the lining and had fourlegs try it on. The shoulders fit really nicely and I got the waist and sleeves to the right length. Then I started working on the complete tail. Figured I'd sew it up then attach the whole thing to the lining, then Id sew the fashion fabric together and sew that shell to the black lining "jacket", only needing to turn in the hem of the fashion fabric at the waist to cover the tops of the tails.

Didn't quite work out that way. Spent most of the day trying to get the zipper that attaches the tails to pin correctly then I screwed up the stitching. It has to be ripped out. It skewed for some reason and since this is a visible, almost decorative stitch, it needs to not deviate from being parallel to the zipper. Ugh. So I went to bed about 2am last night with only the black lining functional as a jacket sans tails.

After two plus days of only sewing eating and sleeping (with the occassional computer time in between pinnings as I have my computer set up on my sewing desk) Im kinda burned out. I should cut out the pieces of the fashion fabric today and assemble them, but I think a trip to home depot might refresh me.

But overall Im really impressed with this costume pattern from Simplicity. Its been really easy as far as the pattern pieces go. The biggest problem Im having is when I deviate from the pattern. fourlegs looks really nice in the jacket, it fits him really well. He got his top hat last night from archers_elegant plus he's shaved to have civil war era mutton chops. Its going to be a really nice outfit.

Now if only I wasn't so tired and could get it finished. But the convention isnt until September, and even though I have at least one other outfit to make before then, another week is not going to kill me.
