Fic recs: Suits and Merlin
So somehow me expressing my feelings about Benedict Cumberbatch being cast for the ST sequel devolved into a discussion about what was wrong with Reboot, and I may have been the one who accidentally started it, so um, sorry? Let's not do this again, it makes me sad.

Summary:Harvey Specter, second year law student at Harvard, was walking home one night when he found a teenaged runaway named Mike freezing to death on his doorstep.
I should warn you beforehand it's gen, and not even bromantic gen, just gen. Deep friendship feelings, brotherhood, that kind of thing.
Why I liked it:
You guys, I'm not even in the Suits fandom. I watched the show, but I never had any desire to read any of the fics. Also I can't remember the last time I read a gen story. I had this opened in a tab all week and was procratinating because seriously, gen. :)
However, despite all that, I read it and I was delighted. I love this trope to bits, been thinking about writing a Merlin fic along the (somewhat) similar lines. I know it's hardly original, but I for one can't get enough of poor&smart Merlin and helping&falling for him Arthur.
Anyway, I digress. The New Deal is truly a wonder and it uses this trope brilliantly. You don't need to have any real knowledge of Suits to enjoy it. It's quick-paced, very smart, and filled to the brim with emotions, while staying true to characters. I really can't think of a better praise. I swallowed this thing in one go, even though at times it got almost too intense. I loved it more than I thought I would, I loved it more than (blasphemy!) some of the slash fics I've read lately. It's really, really brilliant. Trust me.

GUH. This fic is hot like burning, and not only in the pr0ny parts. It hit a lot of my major buttons and was wrapped together rather brilliantly. There's this kind of wonderful balance between Merlin and Arthur, a scorching hot first time, feeeeeelings, various talents showing off, gorgeous UST, and.... well, I could go on, but really, just read it.
The Spirit of Christmas by tourdefierce
Arthur/Merlin, NC-17
Summary: This is the story about how Arthur the Elf got his groove back.
Okay, this might be the most original universe I've ever read in fanfiction. Half the time you think you're going crazy, and asking if you're reading crack (and wtf, you don't even like crack, but you're loving this), but then you get horribly distracted by the HAWT, and well, after that it's kind of a moot point. :D
