Right, so...

Randomly popping up to say that whoever wanted me to watch BSG, I kinda hate you. My muse hates you. My writing really hates you. At the moment, I blame you for every single thing not getting done, and I'm comfortable doing that. Cheers. :\

A little of both? It was just... the whole experience was so emotionally fraught. Not just the show, but my whole fandom experience with it.

Prior to watching the show, I'd been out of fandom for well over five years. But I mainlined the show (at that point seasons 1-3) and within weeks had joined LJ and started writing fic. And it was emotional and fun and good and exciting with so many god damn awesome women characters...

And I still don't know what happened. I hated the end, but I can't even say why (was it honestly bad, or was I just butt hurt because it wasn't what I thought it should be?)and I've never seen a fandom fall apart so quickly after that. It was always somewhat segmented- what with all the various pairings- but with such a definite end and certain pairings having their happily ever after, and other characters not even surviving to the end... there was a huge range of feelings -from pure unadulterated joy, to bitterness, to soul crushing heart pain- it was hard for everyone to live together any more.

It's just- so conflicting. There were some characters and character arcs that I loved and are unmatched in any other narrative, but there are some things that were done to I can't get over. On the whole, I'm glad I watched the show. I bought the first 4.5 seasons (the last season was broken in two) and before the very last episode, I had rewatched them all several times. But after that final, I haven't watched a single episode.

Anyway... middle of season 2? Pegasus Arc yet? If so, my favorite part of the whole series, and pretty much universally agreed as the high point of the series.

(and have you seen Black Market yet? If so, sorry. If not, just skip it. It's universally agreed as the worst episode and you will miss nothing by not watching it.)

(And if you want fic recs, I got them!)

I see. Yes, I'm past the Pegasus arc and I had already watched Black Market when you asked. It was a weird ep. I'm actually noticing this a lot about the series. Like the characters are so coherent one moment, and then suddenly their actions and motivations become complete mystery to me.

And yes, what a plethora of pairings! The slasher in me sort of cries a little, though. My brain is so broken. :D

Who did you ship? :)

Yeah, I hear you. That sucks. Kind of a bit like what is happening to Merlin now. Sorry, my pain is never far from me. >.<

I'm not sure I'll be reading fics yet, but if you have some absolute must in mind, please share. I'm curious. ;)

Who did I ship? Well, I should say first that BSG was (oddly) was not about the smut for me. I mean, I'd read it, but it's wasn't something I sought out. I was all about 'filling the gaps' 'missing scenes' or 'what if? AU's' so that's what you'll see with my recs. And about your comment re: characterizations- fandom writers really had to step in to 'fix' the inconsistent actions and motivations of the various characters.

But my shipping preference was definitely Roslin/Adama. They totally fit my OTP checklist: 1. Equals - both as President and Admiral; but equals within the narrative as well. 2. Opposites with a common goal- One thinks, the other feels but both want what's best for the fleet. 3. United, they are a force to be reckoned with- 1+1 doesn't = 2 but rather 100. (see also Kirk/Spock; Mulder/Scully; Sherlock/John; Charles/Erik)

First of all, I ready made a rec list here. I still like them all, but I realize it is quite a bit, so here are the ones I remember in detail +2 years after reading them (so they must be good, right?) (Don't look at the list until you've seen 4x10 just to be safe.)

Safe to read now-
and besides you breathe differently down here An investigation into the custom of telling lies in the dark. Two years before the end of the worlds, a Six studies humanity.
A Better Time What if the cylons hadn't launched the attack?
from the stories on their faces When Sharon was Sharon.
supply and demandThe first Law of Supply and Demand extends to everything. First, it was tampons.

Don't want to spoil, so no descriptions. Just trust me? ;)
Read after 3x01 Prisoners to the Dark
After 3x06 Glass Slipper
After 3x07 Black Flag
After 3x20 Fairy Tale, Ending
After 4x04 What They Don't Say the Military Will Teach You
After 4x08 Through the Eyes of a Madman
After 4x20 Between a Memory and a Dream And yeah, this one is by me, but this truly was the thing that made the ending 'ok' for me.

Oooh, thank you for these, bb. ♥

I feel a bit weird about the show right now. Some radical characterization twists really throw me, especially when it comes to Apollo and Starbuck.

Actually, the characters I find most sympathetic so far are Adama Sr., the Chief, Dee, and Gaeta. Well, I liked Billy, but they killed Billy. We'll see what happens next...

Forgot to add- I'll never, ever regret this show because it gave me this awesome music.

Seriously, of my top 10 most played list, 8 of them are BSG songs.

I must admit I really kind of hated the finale too. Or rather, it was really awesome to watch it, to see everything come together like some amazing jigsaw puzzle. Afterwards, however..... I'm too much a believer in free will to find much satisfaction in how things ended.

Okay, shut up now, both of you. Don't spoil me, I still want to see it. ;)

This! It was amazing how everything came together, well, almost everthing. And I was quite satusfied with it, as it made the story complete, without an option to continue (I think it's why fandom fell apart), to which we are used to-always an open ending, in case they are contracted for another series. And BSG was a story with definitive end. But leaving some hope, I think.
