This Verse Will Kick Your Ass (Fic Rec)
You guys. If you're not reading the Riotverse series by jane_potter , you're missing out on something BIG. I have no words to describe this verse, except that I can't remember the last time a fic has left me wobbly-legged literally and groping for breath. I'm not exaggerating here, I swear. When I read stuff like that, I ask myself WTF I'm still doing in this business. For reals.
In short, it's an AU, sort of a pirate!AU and anti-utopian to boot. It's not like MU fics, though, these guys are fighting for a noble cause, and the fact that it puts them on the wrong side of the law is just a juicy bonus. Spock in leather and eyeliner has never been hotter, but what knocks you out is that -- you believe him! And in him, in equal measures, and you know how sensitive I am about Spock. Jim's awesome, Scotty's awesome, and overall characterization kicks ass big time. That's a tight spot to squeeze writing an AU and she did it brilliantly.
I know, most of you stopped reading after the 'Spock in leather and eyeliner' line and skipped off to read it, but for those who stayed, let me warn you. This verse is not crack and not light stuff by any stretch of thought. It's pretty dark, actually, and various kinds of dub/non-con are a reoccurring topic. I read it fine, it's not gore or anything, but if you're extremely sensitive what are you doing reading this journal? I'll just warn you that there are potential triggers. Particularly in the third installment, with Uhura's character piece.
