Okay, guys, here's the deal. I'm working on a larger piece now (Don't Stop Believing, if you're interested), and sometimes I need a break. I find that I'm gladly writing short stories, like Shock Therapy or Personal Diplomacy to take my mind off things and get a move on the major thing. The problem is, the part of my brain responsible for plot

“I’d like to know that as well,” McCoy’s voice comes from behind her.
Uhura releases Spock and steps back from him. Both McCoy and Scotty are there, and their expressions don’t promise anything good.
“Look at me when I talk to you, you green-blooded goblin,” McCoy demands, and the raw pain seeping into his voice is astounding. “I warned Jim not to get involved with you, but I gotta tell you, Spock, I never could imagine you’d cheat on him.”
“Aye,” Scotty quips from Uhura’s left. “And be so stupid about it, too. Did ye think ye could pick up a guy on Risa and nobody’ll know? And when Jim’s waiting for ye, too? How callous are ye, lad?”
“What kind of logic made you do it, Spock?” McCoy advances on him menacingly. “And did you think we’d just stand aside and let you hurt Jim like that?”
Spock, who by that point has found it in him to look at them, speaks quietly, “I never wished to hurt him, Doctor.”
“No, of course not,” McCoy scoffs, eyes glinting angrily. “It just comes as an added bonus of getting to know you.”
“What’s going on here?” Jim asks, appearing in the doorway and looking them over in turn. “The food’s going cold. Spock.” He smiles at the Vulcan. “Where have you been? I missed you.”
Before any of them can say a word, he walks over to Spock and takes his hand gently. Spock winces, violently, jumping back and jerking his hand free.

“Tell him, Spock,” Uhura says bitterly. “Go on, why don’t you? Tell him where you’ve spent the day.”
“I-” Spock looks up at her and then at Jim, before dropping his eyes again. The sheer concern and love in Jim’s eyes are torture to him. “Jim, I...”
“Cat got your tongue?” Uhura jibes.
“Uhura,” Jim snaps curtly. “I’d like to hear it from Spock, if you don’t mind.”
“Jim,” Spock tries again, holding his gaze with tremendous difficulty. “Jim.” He can’t get the words out.
“Spock, whatever it is, you can tell me,” Jim says softly. “Anything.”
Spock takes a deep breath. “I had a sexual encounter earlier today,” he says in a monotone he himself wouldn’t label as his voice. “With a - with a man.”
“He cheated on you,” Uhura translates scornfully. “Guess you didn’t see it coming, did you?”
Jim’s eyes, locked with Spock’s till that moment, shoot at her briefly. “I would appreciate it if you shut up for a moment,” he snaps and turns to Spock again.
They stare at each other for what seems to be an eternity, and Spock never knew it could hurt so much. Jim’s eyes are wide - shock, grief, pain - but there is one emotion missing from the mixture. There’s no bitterness of betrayal.
Jim steps toward Spock then, takes his hands gently and squeezes. Spock blinks, thrown at this treatment.
“Spock,” Jim says very quietly. “I don’t know what happened, but I do know one thing.” He looks Spock in the eye squarely. “You would never hurt me like this.”
Spock closes his eyes. “I did, Jim,” he whispers. “What the Lieutenant said-”
“I don’t care what the Lieutenant said,” Jim cuts him off sharply. “Spock, I know you.” He presses an infinitely gentle hand to Spock’s temple. “I’ve been here, remember? I know you the way you don’t know you. You could never cheat on me, Spock. You love me too much.”
“Jim,” Spock breathes out helplessly, the flood of Jim’s trust drowning him, sweeping him off his feet.
“Shh,” Jim soothes, and then he slides an arm around Spock, holding him. “It’s okay, it’s okay, love. Tell me what happened.”

“Don’t you dare apologize, Spock,” Jim snaps, and this time he sounds angry. “Bones, get your ass over here.”
“I read you, Jim,” McCoy grunts, already having a medical scanner trained on Spock. “Oh, fucking hell.”
“Roofie?” Jim asks, hands curling into fists.
“One of its infinite reincarnations,” McCoy confirms with a nod. He puts his scanner away and looks at Spock. “Spock, do you know what a date rape drug is?”
Spock winces. “He did offer me a drink.”
“I want this guy found,” Jim snaps at Scotty. “I want his ass in the brig by dawn so that I can rip him a new one, is that clear?”
“Aye, sir!”
“Sorry, Spock,” McCoy mutters, clapping Spock on the shoulder awkwardly. “If you beam up with me, I can tend to your injuries.”
“Later, Bones,” Jim says sternly, and McCoy desists, much to Spock’s relief. “You can all apologize to Spock later for acting like total jerks when he’s been hurt.” Jim sweeps them over with a fiery gaze. “Now kindly leave us alone.”
Spock catches Uhura’s horrified glance before McCoy tows her away.
“Spock. Look at me.”
Spock does. “I’m so sorry, Jim. I should have realized... Should have stopped...”
Jim sighs. “Come here.”
Gently, he pulls Spock close, rocking him softly. After Spock relaxes slightly into his arms, Jim cups Spock’s face with his hands, looking at him.
“You have done nothing wrong, and the only person who should be sorry is Hayden, and believe me, when Scotty finds him, he will be, I’ll make sure of that.” He presses a light kiss to Spock’s lips. “I love you,” he says quietly against Spock’s cheek. “You are the only person I have ever told that and meant it. You can trust me to trust you, Spock. Because I do trust you. You understand?”
“Yes,” Spock lets out a ragged breath. “I am grateful, Jim.”
“Oh, don’t be,” Jim chuckles. “I’m one hell of a prize to deal with. But you know what?” He licks the corner of Spock’s mouth teasingly. “I think you’ll manage.”
Spock closes the gap between them blindly, and they spend a blissful eternity, perfectly oblivious to anything around them.
“We’ll get through this, Spock,” Jim whispers once they come up for air. “I promise.”
Spock believes him.

/capslock & death> Seriously, very very touching relationship. Trust!fic is always great. Of course Jim would see what everyone else fails to understand, of course he would stand up for Spock, even when his friends were just standing up for him, and of course that Hayden person is gonna get his shit kicked out of him, yes?
"Jim, whose whole face lights up like a Christmas tree at the prospect of some alone time with Spock."
Cute cute cute cute cute cute cute cute cute cute cute cute cute!

Sorry, it's just it's the first time someone made art for my stories, and since I can't draw to save my life, I'm thrilled... <3

*sighs* I'm currently on the move a lot, have very little time online, sadly. And this fic, well, it read a little off to me so I decided not to post it as a separate thing. I mean as a prompt response it's fine, but it's not usually the way I see Uhura or Bones, so what have you. Thanks for reading, I'm glad you liked it. ;)
