Jared/Sandy - anybody's business?

Jun 08, 2008 01:29

I never, ever post as those of you who have been kind enough to friend me back have noticed but I have this opinion and rather than posting it in the comments of others' journals, I thought I ought to put it here.

I think the Jared/Sandy break up is verry, verry sad. But I do actually think "fandom" is allowed to be interested in it and the circumstances. Here's the thing - Jared talked about Sandy in many, many of his interviews about the show. They cast her as a guest because she was his girlfriend. They talked about each other and their relationship at cons.

If their relationship is so very private and so none of our business, shouldn't the same people saying that now have been saying it then? But they weren't - they were saying how awesome Sandy is (and I think she's great myself) and how cute Jared and Sandy, and so on and so on.

I think it's hypocritical to squee and fangirl an actor's private relationship when it's all sunshine and rainbows and then slag all over people for being just as interested when things go bad. I'm not sorry - I'm interested in what the deal is here. If Jared acted in any way, shape or form like the rumor reports, I'll be very disappointed and will never pay to go to another con, skip over any interview with him, not watch behind the scenes footage. I'll probably still watch the show because I like the characters (when Dean isn't being a misogynist prick) but to me, the other stuff is about the actors - and I won't want to know anything more about this particular actor.

So, basically my point is, I don't think it's cool to swoon over an actor when he's being dreamy and then get all preachy about his "privacy" and "personal life" when he's not. It's a double standard that only benefits the assholes. And their publicists.
