*wicked grin and chuckle* Subtle is not exactly the first word that jumps to mind when describing Jack Cottle ... but then you've already figured that out. *winks*
Jack slowly lowered himself into a chair. He rubbed his bleary eyes and ran a hand through his white hair. "Those days are a blur. Most of what I remember is stark -- and mean." He sighed. "Calls from ships begging for medical care for their wounded. Captains begging for sedatives. Pilots, knuckledraggers, console jockeys, commanders…" Jack made a wry face. "Walking around utterly exhausted. Angry shocked stressed people reacting badly to circumstances…" He leaned back in his chair. "We lost close to 300 during those first five days."
He reached into his pockets, searching for a smoke, and finally pulled out a slightly crushed cigarette. Jack rolled it through his fingers to straighten it. "Over the next 36 hours we lost another 2000 - 1300 on the Olympic Carrier alone." He paused to light his cigarette and take a deep drag. "Then the Cylons stopped coming. They must have been tracking that ship…" He shook his head.
"And twenty-four hours later a baby was born on the Rising Star. The human race never ceases to
