Jamie Lidell:

When I Come Back Around

God damn. Jamie Lidell has more soul than any white, British, dance musician should be allowed to look at or even listen to. Straight up Stevie-style Motown, R&B, and Funk music which (aside from the time stretching and absurd synthesis) sounds like it should have been made 30 years ago. On his new album Multiply (Warp, to be released on June 13) this dude manages to make some absurdly funky jams that sound more organic than one would expect from the Warp roster. Definitely worth checking out (right now there is a 12"/Bleep release at Bleep.com which features two other tracks from the record...)
"Used to get those kicks for free, but now I'm towin' the line..."-Multiply-Jamie Lidell

Fog:

We're Winning

I posted this track before. 10th Avenue freakout is a killer album... Not quite as quirky & or as lo-fi as Ether Teeth, and not nearly as turntable driven as any of his other records, 10th Ave... is a stunning little pop-gem. You can hear Brody's obsession with sound on a lot of the tracks (though the record never feels abrasive)... Co-produced by Cepia (Ghostly International), the record sometimes feels Hip-Pop or Autechre does singer songwriter. "We're Winning" is the most electronic song on the album... I wanted to get an mp3 of the title track, but can't find one...

"Sometimes I dream I'm driving over water in a car with my dad or my brother. Sometimes you dream your in a foreign country and you packed the wrong clothes."- 10th Avenue Freakout.

Why?:

Sanddollars

Of course, It would make sense to post on the new Why? tracks after the new Fog album (Hymies Basement, Remixes, same brand of indie-hop)... On first hearing, I didn't much like the new Why? stuff... I wanted more obnoxious whiny lo-fi cut and paste self involved "hip hop"... I'm pretty much in love with the e.p. now... Get past the reverb, cheesy recording, and beach Boys-esque harmonies any you'll find a typical Why? record... Self-involved, quirky, short, catchy, in short, promising... Some of the tracks don't develop the way i'd like, but overall this is a brilliant little e.p.

"Even Miss Ohio's nameless in her evening gown and when your voice is wasted and you've lost your sound, you'll know where your plane is when it's going down. -Miss Ohio's Nameless-Why?

For some more good stuff, check out Dan Deacon. Especially Lion With a Sharks Head & Ohio... Badass & obnoxious, I would write about them but I'm tired of looking at this screen...
