He was stupid, going out for a walk without an umbrella when the weather forecast and the sky both indicated that a downpour was imminent. The clouds were hanging low overhead, the colour like asphalt, and the air was heavy in his nostrils. He walked as fast as he could back to his apartment, but at the rate that the clouds were moving, he didn't expect that it would be nearly fast enough.
With a low rumble, the water droplets broke free of each other and fell to the ground. They landed heavily on his arms, his shirt, his pants, his shoes, and just about every part of his body that they could reach. There was nothing more he hated than being cold and wet, so this wasn't the exactly the best situation that he could envision himself in right now. He should be at home, damn it, curled up against his lover, maybe watching some mindless television program, or just appreciating the fact that there was a warm body beside his own.
He sighed, thinking about the many other things that he could, no, should, be doing at this very moment, rather than being stuck out here in the horrible rain that contained acid that would probably rot away at his skin. But there was nothing he could do, save for stepping up his pace in hopes of reaching home faster.
Suddenly, an umbrella materialized over his head, shielding him from the rain, and a familiar body appeared next to him.
He turned his head and looked into the big blue eyes of his best friend. He was surprised; why would he be here, in the horrible rain that contained acid? When he left his friend was still sleeping, snoring softly, arms and legs spread out across the wide king-sized bed. Confusion shrouding his eyes, his head tilted - on its own accord - towards the left as if he were thinking about something, his mouth agape, question hanging off his lips.
He doesn’t actually need to verbalize it though.
"Thought you might want shelter and a bit of company." He answers with a dismissive shrug.
He takes the umbrella from his lover’s hand with one hand and entwines his fingers with his with the other. He smiled, lips slightly parting to reveal perfect white enamel, and in that moment, he knew it was it. Love.
Two figures huddled tightly against each other, two figures shaded from the rain, leaning on each other for warmth and company, sharing something they both felt for each other.
Sharing the love between them.
