Getting someone to quit smoking is no easy task. Yamamoto knows this, because he's tried quite a few different ways.
Gokudera has found cigarettes dumped in his toilet and empty packs with post-its slapped on them asking him to quit all over his apartment. He's left packs in random places and turned his back on them only to find the cigarettes missing later. He's even tried finding secret hiding places for spare single cigarettes, but even those weren't enough to keep the thief from finding them. Once, he came home and found all of his lighters in a pile on his living room carpet, every last one sliced into pieces.
Every time he went to Yamamoto, pissed off about the latest theft, the baseball freak pretended to have no idea what he was talking about.
Gokudera lets his anger boil over one afternoon and goes to look for Yamamoto after his baseball practice.
Cornering the boy as he walks out of a batting cage, Gokudera shoves him back against the fence.
"No matter how many fucking cigarettes you throw out or lighters you destroy, I'm still going to keep smoking. You might as well give up and stop wasting my money."
Yamamoto stops grinning for a moment, wiping sweat from his brow with the back of his arm and sighing. He seems to drop the innocent act as he crosses his arms.
"I just think it's terrible for your health and you shouldn't do it. You wouldn't want to get sick and have to let Tsuna down, right?"
"Leave the Tenth out of your stupid arguments, baseball freak."
"Haha, but it's true. If you got sick-"
Gokudera shoves him again, prompting Yamamoto to raise his arms in a show of harmlessness.
"What the hell do you care if I get sick, anyway?"
Yamamoto looks around before responding.
"Well, I wouldn't want something bad to happen to you."
"Why? Why would you go so far as to break into my fucking apartment to stop me from smoking?"
Gokudera doesn't get to keep asking questions because suddenly, Yamamoto pushes forward against him and kisses him. Before he can even consider who has his lips pressed against his, he kisses back, moving him back against the fence. Yamamoto makes a satisfied noise against his mouth when he finally pulls back, leaving the other boy to stare at him and breathe hard as he wonders what just happened.
"Because I didn't want to kiss a smoker's mouth," Yamamoto says simply.
Gokudera licks his lips and begins to say something, probably littered with profanity, but Yamamoto cuts him off with another kiss. He gets far enough to slither a hand up the back of Gokudera's shirt and leave a light bruise on his neck with his teeth before Gokudera pushes him away.
"Fuck, I could've just bought some fucking mints or something, you retard."
