A dark night. Such a dark night.
It was as if the sky closed its eyes to the world, refusing to witness what might… or might not occur. A man had been staring at that moonless and starless sky ever since he realized that light was missing. Long, long hours, he spent that evening looking out at the sky that would not look back at him anymore. A feint smile drew on his lips. 'Whether it is you or me, at least one of us should smile and believe.'
His fingers moved over his own reflection on the cold window glass. The image was so clear, so mirror-like that it was surreal. He closed his eyes in his turn.
Then, an expected knock was heard at the door. A second face appeared on the glass as the silver haired man entered the room. He moved forth to the boss’ desk and did not take another step closer.
“Juudaime…” At a time like this, all he dared to do was calling his name, his title, once more, as many times as he could. Gokudera wanted to speak; he wanted to convince him again, but he knew it was all too futile.
A minute passed.
His friend did not speak, but Tsuna could hear all his words storming in the air. The place was quiet, but the thoughts screamed so loud.
‘Juudaime.
‘Are you sure?
‘You cannot trust them.
‘Please, let me go in your place.
‘There is no point to negotiate with them.
‘But you are putting yourself in too great danger.
‘Without a doubt, they will betray the Vongola and you may…’
Even so, Gokudera did not physically speak a single word. On the day before the fateful day, the least that he could do was to be there with his boss, to tell him that he was there, to protect him silently if he might. He wished to do so much more, but every thing that he tried to do to stop the resolute man was all in vain. He tried; he really tried so many times before to persuade him. Presently, a word was still not said. When he looked up, he could not see his boss’ face; he could not feel what he was thinking. All there was were his own reflection and the Tenth’s hand covering his. It seemed as if his intentions would never reach, but…
His feelings were successfully conveyed. Gokudera’s sole presence at this place was enough to give him spirit to face the next day’s ordeal. Tsuna let his eyes detach from the dark sky and turned around to take a last good look at his long date partner. He gifted him with a sincere smile; one that, even without words, easily said, “Thank you, Gokudera.”
'The past should give us hope’ was the answer.

Random: No capital letters in LJ-cut is sad. D': Oh, and I hope it wasn't too confusing or the sort. I wanted to write about a specific image that I had in my mind, but it must have strayed off somewhere.
