Random Thoughts
Lent is upon us. I have decided to give up the television (minus Chicago White Sox games). This should be a challenge even though I feel most of the programing on TV is trash. The TV is always there when you want to be idle and mindless and giving up that will not come easy but I feel the fruits of that will include more time for prayer and devotion to my studies.

I saw an Iowa license plate on the expressway today. Whenever I see an Iowa license plate it reminds me of my time at St. Ambrose University. Sometimes I forget I ever went there. I was so miserable while I was there. It only took me a month to realize that SAU was not right for me. I actually thought about visiting again this year but I could probably count the people I would really want to see on my left hand that still attend SAU.

Recently I have become an uncle. Last Thursday my sister Katie gave birth to a baby girl. Katie and Jerry named her Alia Elizabeth. I got to hold Alia last night for the first time. It was a pretty remarkable experience for me. To look at her in my own arms and to think about all the possibilities for her future. I began to think that someone once looked at me the same way. I will post some photos of her on here tomorrow.
