so today was the first day that the kids came to boces. it actually went a lot more smoothly than i truly expected. im in a 6:1:1 class (students: teacher: aide(s)). oh wait- we arent called aides anymore... the new term is 'instructional associate'. i find it really funny b/c they just tried to make it sound all high and mighty. anyhoo, my class is multiply disabled and its totally different than any class i have worked w/ before, so i guess it will be 'an experience'- or at least thats what i try to keep telling myself.
lemme just give you a little brief overview of what my class is like. there are 6 kids: 2 girls, 4 boys. 4 of them are in wheelchairs (if the erikk kid ever shows up, i guess he didnt last year). oh and here's the best part: only ONE of them is 'toileted' as they like to call it. aka the rest are in DIAPERS. gross. not to mention they are like 11-13 yrs old!!! and i thought one diaper kid last year was bad. i'd give anything to have my class from hell from last year all over again instead of this one. im hoping i will warm up to the adjustment. ::wishful thinking:: one of the kid's, shawn, has down's syndrome and he is basically in love w/ me. he's adorable and he like kisses my hand every 5 sec. however, i remember last year that he had to be restrained a couple times... i certainly hope that history isnt repeated!! :-/ then the only other kid that isn't in a wheelchair is thomas. he's an interesting fellow. he has MR and is legally blind. he also likes to repeat really random things over and over again. for example: 'the cow is green. GREEN COW.' was said today approx 234345623456 times today. he is prob at like a preschool level and he knows his shapes and colors and says 'rec-a-tickle' instead of rectangle. i couldnt help but find this highly amusing every time he said it. (PS i shouldnt think this way seeing as im going into speech. im going to hell.)
now that i will be busy every weekday for the rest of summer from 7:30-3 i wont have as much time to just sit and think about things and i think its already helping. i eat lunch everyday w/ nicole coon in her mom's office by the gym. after work today i went and visited lori for a little while at dolan park. i got whatever the hell that green shit was out of my light blue capris (YESS). i found some nailpolish in my stuff from school that i really didnt recognize as mine, but painted both my nails nails and my toenails w/ it. yep. thats about it, really.
