This Real Housewives of Beverly Hills suicide thing is pissing me off. Once you're past your adolescent/teen years? Suicide is your fault and your fault alone. (ETA: Someone pointed out to me that this statement, which was written in haste and I did not stop at all to think that perhaps I shouldn't just say that and not explain myself, was very hurtful, and to anyone that this hurt I wholeheartedly apologize. If you would like to read my more coherent thoughts on this, which I didn't even mean as hard lined as it absolutely comes across, statement, please do so here.)
I understand people push you to it, events push you to it, but as a grown, thinking adult? You chose to take yourself out of the equation by death rather than using your feet and walking away.
As someone who had a friend kill himself at 15 and as the cousin of a 30 year old man that committed suicide by starting a barfight and shooting at the cops (he spent the previous week making amends with all of his family members yes I do think he did this intentionally) I may have a more hardlined opinion than everyone else but honestly. You can't save someone from themselves and you can't make them need saving. They chose to not get out of a bad situation, they chose to not try to better their life, they chose to fuck themselves up, they chose to let their life come to the point that suicide was a viable option for them and they chose to end their lives.
Blaming anyone besides the guy that killed himself is asinine and blaming Bravo is bullshit. He knew what he was getting into. Beverly Hills wasn't breaking new ground, it is what the fifth housewives? Not to mention well after countless other reality shows. He signed up to do it, he's an idiot If he's shocked by the outcome.
I feel bad for the kids, his parents, and his friends and loved ones. News people, stop trying to figure out whose to blame. You're taking the wrong angle. Talk about how to get help. Talk about the signs of suicide. Give out the 800 numbers for suicide prevention. Stop talking about Bravo like they're gleeful this happened because of ratings and look down your nose at them when you in fact are doing the very same thing.
