I used to watch TDS on a daily basis. I used to love TDS, but they lost me a few years ago. It used to be awesome and completely bipartisan in making fun of the political hacks of the world. It, and Jon, became a bit of a Bush basher, I think partly because he genuinely felt that Bush was not who he wanted as a president, but i think also partly because he headlines a comedy show for a network whose viewership runs on the liberal side and so they were concentrating on what their viewers wanted rather than Jon's actual views, which run more along the General American Average Joe view of "sometimes i agree with the liberals, sometimes i agree with the conservatives, but mostly, I don't care what they say because i have my own mind, so let's take a look at what tools they are."
I've loved Jon since his days on MTV, I love Jon when he does standup, and I love him on Larry King, because that's when you get to hear HIS opinion, not this comedy central appointed Daily Show opinion that he's been doing since... I'm not sure, 2002? I remember the moment they lost me was when Al Sharpton came on and Jon all but kissed his ass when I was hoping for a ripping of it instead, because to me, Jon is at his best when he's calling you on your bullshit (which, prior to then, he had done time and time again) and Sharpton is nothing if not full of it. And then he turned around and did the same damn thing with Pat Buchannon. I don't care if he's softballing it for liberals or conservatives, or hardballing it for liberals or conservatives, I just want him giving them their equal fair of shit for their BS.
(I would also like to point out that I haven't watched it since 02, 03 at the latest, so perhaps he's skewed more towards the middle again and I've not realized it since I haven't been watching... I do intend to give it another shot now).
Anyway, I'm linking to an interview that he did with the douche that does Mad Money on CNBC (you know, all the honks and whistles, etc) back in March (that I just ran across randomly) where he pretty much rips him a new asshole after the crash starts happening and it does my soul good because it reminds me of why I used to love The Daily Show and Jon Stewart back before they became too partisaned for me to watch. Back when Jon used to ask not what the politicians are used to answering and have scripted answers for, but what you and I would ask if we were in a room with whoever for 10 minutes and allowed to ask any question we wanted to. This is the Jon Stewart I used to wish was a real, honest to God journalist, because this guy represents to me what journalists are SUPPOSED TO BE, which is a watch dog, not a ratings whore.
It's three parts long, embedded below the cut, and all of it's interesting but probably parts 2 and 3 are the best.
