stupid comics...

Why are they so addictive? LOL. I love torrents and hate them as well. Mostly I want to read some Iron Man comics right now, because ya know, I'm pathetically obsessed and I just can't seem to pull myself out of it, and I KNOW what's gonna wind up happening is that I am going to wind up making myself get so fucking sick of Iron Man and Robert Downey Jr that I never want to see either of their collective faces again ever, except I doubt it, because EEEEEE, but yeah.

Anyway. I downloaded the whole Civil War arc off of some torrent site and mostly all I'm interested in right now is the Iron Man bits of it, but I'm sure I'll likely wind up reading all of it, but I'm reading what I think is the first appearance of Iron Man in that arc, Invincible Iron Man # 13, or maybe just Iron Man 13, or Ultimate Iron Man, the point is, it's fucking Iron Man, and anyway, I'm enthralled. I'm especially enthralled with Sal Kennedy because he is SO The Big Lebowski, and oh man, ha, Jeff Bridges was in Iron Man, and this amuses me verily, but anyway.

Point is, if anyone knows how I can get the Iron Man arc, just plain old Iron Man, I think it's Invincible Iron Man, in a way that my broke ass can get it, aka, torrents or if you have it scanned, or whatever, I don't care, that would be lovely. In a related point though, I'm hearing rumors, horrible vicious rumors that piss me the hell off, that Marvel Studios is giving Jon Favreau shit about the second movie. Because Marvel feels like RDJ is the draw, it doesn't matter who the director is, so Favreau wanting a pay increase that would bring his pay up to the INDUSTRY STANDARD- as in, not above it, just EQUAL to it-- means they're absolutely happy to find someone else.

I'm sorry, excuse me, Favreau just made your debut movie a blockbuster SMASH. Yes, RDJ was a large, huge part of it, and Favz could have directed it with someone who was less brilliant and it wouldn't have done as well, but, RDJ did not do everything in that movie. RDJ has said countless times that he AND Jon rewrote large portions of it, not just RDJ, and, even if Favz didn't have a hand in writing some dialogue (if you've seen Swingers and Made, you know he did, by the way) he *allowed* RDJ to make whatever changes and play the character the way he wanted to play it, which shows smart directing, to trust in what you know will pan out.

And I just. Don't even. Stan Lee, ya know, the creator, like, worships Jon Favreau. He said at comicon that if they'd had a Favreau back when Marvel started, they would have surpassed DC long before they did. If the creator of the character, and countless other characters that are phenomenally popular, is telling you that Favreau is The Guy for this, why don't you get your head out of your ass, Marvel. Gah.

Now. Granted. Favreau also did Dare Devil, which was horrible, but ya know... Ben Affleck < Robert Downey Jr, so, anyway.

Not to mention the fact that, Marvel? Are you stupid? Robert Downey Jr is kind of notorious for airing his laundry in public, and I'm not just talking about the coke and prostitute habit. He has never played the Hollywood game of sucking up to the bigwigs, and while he's enjoying the success of Iron Man, I highly doubt you're going to be able to muzzle him on the Favreau thing.

From what I understand, RDJ and Favreau are pretty good friends at this point, at least over this movie, and talk on a regular basis about IM2, according to Favreau anyway, and... ha. I just seriously doubt RDJ won't be saying bad shit about Marvel if the strongarm Favreau out of the picture. If for no other reason that the fact that I bet RDJ is a little bit "HA HA!" about the fact that Marvel never wanted him to be Iron Man but Favreau convinced them to and now Iron Man is this huge hit.

I don't know if RDJ is legally bound to do IM2 or what, but I really wouldn't put it past him to say if Favz is out, I'm out, even if it's just a bluff to put them on the table a bit.

Makes me so furious.

Plus which, if Favz isn't going to be directing IM2, is he still going to be Happy Hogan? Because yeah, Happy wasn't in much of the first one, but from what I've seen of Happy, Favreau is a pretty damn perfect fit for his character. Ex-boxing champ, everyman, tells it like it is, kind of serves as a moral sounding board for Tony, has his back, fiercely loyal, etc. Sounds like Favreau to me.

Plus, I was reading the comic that I started off this post talking about, and there's this scene that I would just adore to see played out by RDJ and Favreau. If not this exact scene, then something similar...

ETA: If you want the specific comic I'm reading right now, that that scan came from, it's right here. It's a cbr file, and you can read it with ComicDisplay, or change the file extention to .rar and unrar it into individual pictures.

ETA 2: Regarding Favz directing Iron Man 2... the original article was put out by both AICN and IESB. I think it was IESB first, and that article is here. AICN's is here. Apparently there was such an ensuing mass of angry fans bitching about the stupidity of Marvel that Marvel heard it and acted on it, issuing a statement, or leaking something, whatever, about how of course they want Jon back, and are offering him more money. That article is here and it's skimpy on the details as IESB doesn't know much at this point, but... All Hail the Internet. Ha. That makes me super happy.
