i'm turning into such a nerd...

Jan 27, 2007 17:15

Ya know, I was always kind of a nerd, in that I have glasses and made good grades in school (uh, until high school, when apparently I decided I was tired of being a nerd and decided that meant I needed to start slacking on grades, and um... never stopped) but now I'm turning into an outright fucking NERD. I mean, sci-fi AND comic books? That's just not right. Do I care? Not so much.

So I'm reading the series Quiver, penned by Kevin Smith (who by the way, as true to his nature and previous commentary on the inherant gayness of the comic book industry, especially in its sidekicks, makes the gay vibe stright up there and even verbalized, which is awesome). And it? Is awesome. It's about Green Arrow, and I'm sure I'm missing things, but I've read a few Wiki articles and I think I'm caught up enough to understand what came before at least enough to understand these comics.

What's funny though, is that the hardest thing for me is to seperate this Oliver Queen from the Oliver Queen on Smallville. The Oliver from Quiver is all "technology, bzuh?" and Old School and "little misses" and "kiddo" and has like, this killer 70's pornstache Van Dyke beard type thing, and just in general, isn't really anything like Oliver Queen on SV. But also, the name Ollie fits him much more than I think Ollie fits SV's Oliver, because Ollie seems like a playful, down home, nickname type name and Oliver on SV is very much not downhome, he's very much richkid, and he seems much more suited to Oliver than Ollie. Which doesn't mean I don't call him Ollie, because I do, it's even canon, but. Anyway. That's what I get for knowing SV's Oliver before reading any comics. But? if it weren't for Justin Hartley's hotness in portraying SV's Oliver I might never would've gotten a hold of these comics so I could read them. And that would have been a shame.

On the plus side, both Oliver's are very sexy in their own way, and Ollie from the comics is way funny and adorable and I want to squish him, and then he goes off on political rants and that's just awesome and funny. Also, there is Batman in this, and I? Am completely and 100% in LOVE with Bruce Wayne.

The unfortunate part about the great divide between Oliver's is the fact that I want to write Oliver/Chloe and even Oliver/Chloe/Clark fic, and I admit that was part of why I started reading this, and now I don't know which Oliver is going to come out of me when I wind up writing it. I guess it's jsut a case of wait and see, because guys I gotta tell you? I love the way Kevin Smith is writing him, and I have a track record of fanficcing most of Kevin Smith's characters anyway, so... LOL.

I guess I'll just have to watch Justin Hartley's episodes before writing for SV's Oliver so I get the correct Oliver Tone. Because they're different right down to the tone, the way they speak. Completely different.

If you want to read Quiver too, you can download them here, 87.4mb. You can read it one of two ways. Unzip it and download CDisplay to read it with, or unzip it, change the file extension of .cbr to .rar and unrar it (winrar), and then read it as a series of jpg files. I recommend CDisplay.
