Well, it’s been a while since I posted anything here. I guess I’ll catch things up a bit.
Let’s see- Ailea challenged me to finish an Elizabethan for 12th night and she would do the same. As you might imagine, that sucked up a large amount of my waking hours over the last month. That went surprisingly well, though there were a few challenges. They both looked great- you can see it here:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/tangwystl/3171098817/ There were a few problems- the collar on my ruff is too large, and needs taken in, same with my corset (and I wouldn’t have believed that one, but things aren’t staying where they belong. Hopefully I can get it fixed before CaerGalen A&S) and I’d like to change out the waistband of my overskirt to something a little sturdier. Beyond that, a very wearable outfit. Now, I need a hat.
The Abbey holiday party was fun. I dragged the Numenorean along to it. We ate tons of good stuff and talked to lots of fun people. I actually got to meet and talk to the premier white scarf of the Outlands, who, unfortunately, I have not had a chance to fight with. It was nice to have a chance to just sit and talk to people.
Christmas day was entertaining- I headed over to Tristan’s for his traditional anti-holiday party and we had breakfast and watched Happy Tree Friends before heading over to see The Spirit. After that, the party broke up, and, not having planned on dinner that night, the Numenorean and I went off to find light food at about 6. Did you know that there’s almost nowhere around that serves food on December 25? We ended up at Denny’s. Yes, it was that sad. We probably should have called tgrcats_tail to see if there was leftover goose (mmmm, goose…) and see if we could crash her family party, but we were so cracked up about it we didn’t think that far. I got an MP3 player (type generic) from the Numenorean that I’m going to have to figure out how to use. (yes, I’m finally going to join the rest of the 21st century.)
Rivkarivkina’s latke party was, as always, a delight. I dragged the poor Numenoradan to that too, although I think he had fun eating latkes and chatting with Neal. I gorged myself on latkes and noodle kugel, as usual, and chatted with a bunch of people I don’t see often.
12th night was fun- I had a new outfit to wear, and I also got to see lots of people I don’t often get to talk to. I wore my new Elizabethan for maybe 4 hours before I had to change into Middle Eastern so I could perform with Seuilla during feast. So I’m looking forward to making the changes so I can wear it again. It was remarkably comfortable and a nice change from Chinese, though you will be seeing a lot more of that over the next year or so.
Next on my plate- a brief break to go find my apartment. I’m sure it’s under the threads and fabric scraps somewhere, assuming I can tell them from the laundry.
After that: fix Elizabethan for CaerGalen A&S, interspersed with writing up the class on Chinese Tea that I’m supposed to give at Candlemas. Fortunately, the paper’s mostly there, so all I need to do is make it a class.
3 month goal (Caerthan A&S/KingdomA&S): I need an arts and letters paper on Chinese women’s costume in the Ming dynasty by March 10; a new costume by then (80% finished now); a finished paper on serving tea in Ming China, with demonstration; and a poem and revamped paper on Ming Dynasty poetry (I have a paper and a poem, I just have to decide if they’re adequate or need revised).
However, if I go to Kingdom A&S, I will probably not make Sworded. While this makes me sad, I have to say, I’m more likely to do well at A&S than I am at Sworded. Perhaps if I’m not there, Jervel will get noticed because we’re not being confused for each other.
6 month goal (Uprising): I would like a new fencing jacket. My current one is kinda blah, and doesn’t do what I want it to. I have the fabric, I just need to get around to it. Uprising seems like a good goal. I think I may be able to get my head back in the game by then as well.
I think that's all I have to say for the moment. I feel a rant coming on, but I may not get there.
