The Embargoes Against Iraq, Ash-Shām (Syria And Surrounding Regions), And Egypt
Abu Hurairah (r.a.) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w.s.) said: “Iraq will be denied its dirham and Qafiz. Ash-Shām (Syria and surrounding regions) will be denied its Mudd and dinar. And Egypt will be denied its Irdab and dinar. You will return to where you began. You will return to where you began.” [1]
Qafiz, Mudd, and Irdab are the measurements that were used by the people of those lands. Dirham and dinar were the names of the currencies that were then in circulation. The first of the embargoes referred to in this Hadith, the embargo of Iraq, has of course just recently occurred. The other two are yet to occur. There is neither might nor power with Allah. And indeed, we belong to Allah, and to Him we are returning.
