of appointments and probably doom...

Humming contently to himself a little tune, he was busy tidying his office for what was probably the first time since he moved in. Books were slowly being put on their proper shelves and papers were no longer building up in impressive miniature cities. He even had proper chairs instead of what he borrowed from teacher's lounge. Perhaps he seemed ( Read more... )

[No- well, not until fifteen minutes after the appointment was meant to have started. Arriving fashionably late is Lotti's style.]

[Knocks on the doorframe] Oh Mr. Bre~eak. ♥

"Why Miss Lotti. I wasn't expecting you for at least another fifteen minutes~"

...or not at all, but that little bit went without saying.

"Please, have a seat. Could I get your some tea?"

"How could I bear to miss that much time with you?" But her tone very clearly said that she would have stayed home and, oh, watched paint dry, or maybe read about the hygiene habits of sea urchins, than shown up at all, and not have felt any worse for it.

She hoped that's what it sounded like, anyway.

"Why not."

Even if that was how she meant it, he clearly didn't care. He still would twist words and meanings to fit whatever structure he wanted to play with at the time and let them rest in that new form, even if it was against the owner's wishes.

"What are the others going to say when they find out?"

Pulling out a tea cup, he poured her a fresh cup of what was, today, darjeeling tea. After setting it in front of her, there was another smile before he even went as far as to offer her one of the cookies that he still had left from the cafeteria.

How generous of him. It was too much like sympathy, and made her feel vaguely sick. She flicked the cookie back towards him with one finger, looking at it as if it were a small dead animal.

"Who said they had to find out?"

"Ah. Now that's what I like to hear. It's more interesting when it's a secret, isn't it?"

He disregarded the abuse of the cookie and took a bite of it, himself, seeing that she looked so disinterested in his offer. Though it wasn't really like he minded. All that simply meant was more for him.

"You're going to end up with diabetes," she replied, crossing her arms. Not that he seemed to particularly care about that.

"Would you like to correct my deviant ways, Miss Lotti?" His words were a tease, laced with a smile and almost sing-song quality. "And if so, I should close the door and turn off the lights. The fewer who know I'm actually in, the less likely it is to be interrupted ♥."

It was hard to tell where his words were going or what the allusion being made was becoming. They were certainly double-edged and he implied both meanings at the same time, leaving it for her to decipher.

"Oh, correcting anything wasn't my plan." Now things were getting interesting. As much as she hated very strongly disliked Break, he was... intriguing. Like a puzzle she couldn't quite find all the pieces to.

"Not a bad idea. ♥"

His grin seemed to turn just a bit wider as he stood up and walked to the door, closing it softly and even going as far as to lock it. After a simple flick of the light switch, he moved back over to where the girl was sitting and took a seat in the empty chair next to her instead of across the desk. Leaning forward, he propped an elbow upon a knee and his chin in an open palm.

"Your words are like the alluring call of a siren, luring men to their ultimate despair. And yet, one cannot help but be drawn in and listen to the haunting melody. The one that they know will be their last. Yet there is no ultimate regret in knowing that they were but mortal, still flesh and bone and subject to temptation."

"Why Miss Lotti. For a moment there I thought I had almost rendered you speechless." While he chuckled with the words, he reached across his desk and retrieved that cookie once more, taking another bite. "Though such a thought is foolish, isn't it? A woman such as yourself rendered speechless by someone like me."

Leaning back, he set down the cookie once more and rested his hands in his lap, crossing his legs at the knee. "Or has simply no one tried to properly court a young lady such as yourself?"

Resist the urge to rip that stupid doll from his shoulder and stomp on it. "I don't really care about proper courting. It's-"

She paused, and then shook her head. "No, that would be inappropriate to tell a school counselor, of course.~ ♥"

There was no way to see him change demeanor faster than touching Emily. Everything might have been fair game and he might have been living without rules or boundaries in his life but there was just one that truly was in place: don't harm or touch Emily. "No. Do go on. It's part of what I'm here for, isn't it? To figure out and learn about students and help them with aspects of their studies and life. I'm sure that if you share things with me I can help even you."

A pause permeated the conversation for just a few moments before he smiled in a far too casual way. "Or are you simply shy~?"
