Morning on the Hacking

Oct 19, 2017 19:37

Come with me this week on a morning paddle down the Hacking River to South West Arm...

We'll launch at dawn at Swallow Rock and paddle down past the Royal National Park as the sun rises. Keep your eyes out for white-bellied sea eagles patrolling the river.

Once we're past Lightning Point, the Hacking River opens up into Port Hacking. In the morning calm, the water is smooth like burnished silver.

On the national park side, we'll have a sticky beak at some of the facilities. I think these are Corsair dinghies...

Here a group of pleasure boats has rafted together for a night out in one of the little bays.

It will take about an hour to reach the start of South West Arm. Up ahead, you can see where the Hacking flows into the open sea. All the water here is salty.

On the way back, we'll take our time and cruise over the sand flats looking for stingrays.

And admire the greenery of the Royal National Park.

Before heading back up the Hacking towards our launching site.

As we reach the boat ramp, others are just beginning their adventures...

Home after a great paddle. You can just see the mouth of Muddy Creek in the background, on the far side of the river. Another adventure, for another day...
