Come with me this week on a Winter paddling expedition on Quibray Bay. I'll meet you on the beach, at nearby Botany Bay...
We'll paddle around the groynes to the mouth of Quibray Bay.
Keep your eyes out for pelicans, cormorants and pied oystercatchers (the lowest two birds on the rocks).
Once inside Quibray Bay, we'll cruise around the mangroves...
And check out some of the secret passages that lead through them.
We'll glide over stingrays and shoals of fish...
Mangrove roots and oyster shells...
Eventually, we'll make it through to a hidden lagoon in the middle of the mangroves.
And we'll drift and paddle slowly around its boundaries.
When we've had enough, we'll take the main channel back out to the bay.
If the current is with us, there's barely any need to paddle.
Back we go to Botany Bay... The beach we started at will be just around the corner.
