[[Okay, this ones something that's been bothering me for a while. Stab me if I start failing to make sense, it's 40 degrees Celsius and I don't have so much as a fan.]]
Obviously the concept of Marluxia and Zexion has mind-fuck potential of epic proportions.
Like everything else this is generally handled with the delicacy of attempting to build a scale model of castle oblivion with a sledge hammer and Popsicle sticks.
I'll admit: yes, it's pretty damn hard writing a character that's smarter than you are -harder still when they are talking with a character who is also quite likely smarter than you are I still feel the headache of RPing in a conversation between Vexen, Hojo and Otacon.
Marluxia is an insolent backstabbing neophyte a schemer; Zexion is a smart-arse little-know-it-all also a schemer -they know when and how to be subtle. They plan, get others to do their dirty work, and if they want you to do something they'll either make you think it's your own idea or put you in such a position so as you can't get out of it.
Naturally 90% of the fics seem to be about as subtle as a brick being hurled through your window and hitting you in the head and involve one of the two being a mindless rapist.
Before using the excuse of powerplay, consider just what powerplay is.
The point of the rape being to exert control and gain power is all well and good -but gaining power is only worth while if the power stays, if you lose it five minutes later what's the point.
Maybe has potential on Zexion's end but not so much on Marluxia's -if Marluxia were to attack Zexion like that he would quite probably be answering to Lexaeus very shortly afterward. On the other hand, Zexion has more potential for getting away with it.
And I can't analyze this further in a way that makes sense to people anymore. Hopefully it's understood what I mean.
I won't start on the cheap angst as that will quickly turn to a Zexion is not emo rant.

And now for something completely different. a review I got today.
"Why does everyone think that Vexen is old? he is only 32...Geez..."
Really now? I was unaware there were canonical ages to work off of. *cough**cough*
Ah, people who can't tell fanon from canon. Person posted anon so I couldn't respond, but the oddness amused me.Though really, nothing wrong with characters being in their forties or fifties, resisting all cracks about experience.
