Just some mini-rants
Riku. Most of the time he's characterized as one of the following:
- a sex god and ultimate seme
- A brooding angst bag with no sense of humor
- a total jerk to anyone who isn't Sora, sometimes even Sora!
- All of the above.
Personally, I do not agree with any of this characterization. Yes, Riku has his 'angsty' moments, but that doesn't mean he's 100% angry/bitter/whatever. There's a key aspect a lot of people neglect when it comes to Riku. And what is that?
His sarcasm, not to mention his relaxed nature. Even in KH2 he has some remarks such as 'three wise guys' and the whole 'total sap like you' line that show his snarky side, and despite worrying about how he'll face everyone, he's generally pretty calm. The jerk deal? In Kingdom Hearts, yes, he becomes pretty brutal, but that was mainly because of Maleficent manipulating him, not to mention the darkness. I should think that by Chain of Memories he'd be completely worried about both Sora and Kairi. But of course, to a majority of the fandom, anything with ovaries and breasts means little unless it's a self-insert or mary sue OC.
Moving on, Axel. This one is just a small pet peeve. See, I've seen quite a few portrayals where Axel spells things out a lot. Even more than he says "Got it memorized?" in some cases. I...don't get this. He spells out Xemnas' name in KH2 once, and that's the only time. B| So, while I'm sure he'd have his moments where he'd do something similar, it's not really a catchphrase, IMO.
Finally, Zexion. Something that irks me about Zexion is that when he's portrayed as one to make his schemes super duper obvious. Um. In CoM/Re:CoM he was pretty subtle, I like to think, otherwise he wouldn't really be that good at manipulating. Also, he's not an external jerk per se. On the surface he seems incredibly polite and proper in his speech, so I doubt he'd be the sort to speak with slang and a lot of cursing. This isn't to say that he's nice... just, again, subtle. Even when messing with Riku he was pretty calm and mainly just played with his head.
