I wouldn't mind seeing someone write a fic on the actual canon reason that they wear those cloaks, 'cause I think it's interesting. |D

I'd like to see something like that. I've always assumed that they wear those cloaks for the intimidation factor but I like to hear differing opinions. :D

Well, in the game they said that the cloaks help ward off the effects of darkness when you're going through darkness corridors, otherwise even the Organization would be driven mad by it. And at least for Mickey and Riku, the cloaks also helped disguise their presence from the Organization. But I think the intimidation factor definitely fits in there, too.

Yeah, I imagine the darkness-warding garments could function just fine as mickey mouse ear hats... but who's gonna take a long-winded dude with silky silver tresses seriously while he's wearing mouse ears?

I've seen a Moogle in a 358/2 Days wearing a Organization coat...

Just where the hell do they get these coats? I don't think the Org has Mickey Mouse-sized and Moogle-sized coats laying around...

Now I'm going to be wondering about that all day now. :(
