Just...ugh...

*calming breaths*  It's just...yanno, as someone who cries at Holocaust movies, has been to the museum in D.C, has shaken the hand of a woman who survived Auschwitz, has a girlfriend who had family members sent to the camps, I...just wonder how the fuck someone could be that stupid and insensitive and... *calming breaths*.

Perhaps I don't sound ( Read more... )

I'm tempted too, but I'm pretty sure that the opinion of someone who doesn't like Xigbar/Demyx doesn't count in her precious little worldview. But if I keep going to look for updates to fic I like and finding her piece of crap instead, I may lose my temper and read the whole thing in order to leave a truly blistering review.

Apparently it is a common misconception that contractions, slang, and casual speech in general were only invented in the last fifty years or so. As a result, everyone in the fic loses their characteristic speech pattern. (No matter what the *content* of Xigbar's dialogue is, if he sounds like Xemnas, I'm just not going to believe that he's IC.) And then there's the usual Demyx-spine disconnect. And then there's me going, "Xigbar? Who sneaks around spying on Xemnas and second-guessing his intentions? As a good little Nazi soldier? How is he not dead yet?" And then there's the way she made all the blue-eyed blonds Jewish, which would be fine if there were any sense that she was going for the irony of the Jews looking more Aryan than the Germans, but there isn't, so it's like she just missed the point in an epic fashion.

I don't want to pelt her with 900 pages of pure bullshit, drivel, repetition, and raving! It might confirm her worldview by saying that shit like that is acceptable writing! (And I don't even mean the content. We had to read an excerpt for school once. Terrible, terrible writing.) I want to get good ideas into her head! Preferably about the actual fact of what happened to gay people under the Nazis, for the sake of relevance. Thus, Mysterious Edge. I'd settle for a history textbook or two.

I know the feeling, just resist temptation. There's really no point if she's just going to be a stuck up brat about it.

Arrgg...did she ever pay attention in school? Did she read 'Huckleberry Finn'? She could learn quite a bit about dialogue from that book. Did she read Shakespeare? Chaucer? They have different speech patterns and formal/informal terms for their time periods. What about this is so hard to understand?
Those things in the fic were not KH characters. They had the same names and similar apperances, but they were definately not the same. (I was wondering about the Aryan-Jews too, I mean...wtf?)

Good point, my bad. I have had the good fortune to have never read 'Mein Kampf', so I couldn't say for sure. I've never read this 'Mysterious Edge of the Heroic World', so I'll look into it. Oh, and my history teacher has some pretty good textbooks: they don't sugar-coat shit and they're fricken heavy. I'll see if I can get a truckload dropped on her.

That's exactly what I said in my review (that she deleted)! The Aryan-Jews, the 'el fuhrer', the Xigbar =/= Xemnas thing... sigh.

Great rant, by the way. I'm glad someone ranted about it! I'm emotionally drained after reading her crap.

It's sad that she doesn't seem to know about anything about the setting that she's writing about. Dear fanbrat, if Xigbar is suspected of having sex with a male Jew, the Nazi's are not gonna sit sit around. They'll be out to get blood (a lot of the arrested gays were not caught in the act, but were suspects reported by other citizens). Gays are prisoners with the highest death rate after the Jews. Learn the facts.

How the hell did Demyx get a sitar in India (or wherever the hell he got it)?! If his family was that rich, they'd have migrated a long long time before the whole 'Final Solution' thing. Goddammit. There's a thing called 'bribery'.

Also, where the hell are the armbands? And the Nuremberg Laws? And if Xigbar is a Waffen-SS, why the hell isn't he guarding Hitler? Just... WTF? If it's not historically accurate, DON'T say that it is.

(Damn, if I read this before my History exam, I'm sure it'll motivate me to study harder. Just to prove how pretentious and badly-researched the fic is.)

And fuck, there are people who survived the Holocaust/Nazi Germany. People are killed in horrible ways and tortured and raped and... Grrr! They'll not stand for your fucking shitty excuse for a fic, you insensitive donkey!

...Wow. I'm so much angrier than I thought.

In conclusion: Brilliant rant. It people should take the Holocaust seriously and not rape it up the ass. Enough said.

Ps. Hmm... I would love to get my hands on the history textbooks that you mentioned. Can you tell me some of the titles?

And 'Mein Kampf' is basically a long rant about how/why Jews are evil, why Nationalism is good, why Aryans are superior and other stuff that made up the core ideas of Nazism. It's not coherent, according to my history teacher.

I wish you still had that comment. It probably would have made my day T_T.

I'm always glad to be of service- where there is jaw-dropping stupid within the fandom, I'll be there to rant (although, I confess that I really wish there was something I could do to show the author how offensive she's being. Oh well T__T)

DX I think one of the things that disappointed me most was that fucked up characterization of the Nazis. They are Nazi soldiers. From what I understand, they are FANATICS about everything Hitler says. If they suspected a traitor in their midst, they would not hesitate to shoot him dead. There are a million reasons why Xigbar just should not have survived that fic.

That sitar was confusing. If it had been some sort of an present or heirloom, that'd be okay. But to actually imagine that such a poor family lived there for a bit is a little far-fetched, unless they used to be very wealthy and had recently fallen on hard times (but that doesn't seem to be the case here at all).

Let's see...she mentioned the gold star, the ghettos, and the curfew, but that's about it. I think Demyx still had his copy of the Torah and brought it with him to Xigbar's place. The Demyx I know...isn't that stupid. Actually, I don't think anyone is that stupid. *sigh*

It's alright to be angry. This, after all, goes far beyond the normal 'badfic'.

Ah...I'm quite sorry, but I don't remember the titles of those textbooks, but I did read an excerpt as part of a class- we had to compare the textbooks the school gave us with the ones our teacher had. His were much more in depth- they were both talking about Columbus' conquest of the Americas, but the one our teacher had talked about all the horrible things they did to the native people, while the ones our school gave us made the whole thing sound like a peaceful transaction XP seriously, now even our history books are practically guilty of history rape. What next?!

...I have never read 'Mein Kampf' before and now I never will. Thank you.
