KH + WEWY

Dear KH Fandom:

The World Ends With You =/= Kingdom Hearts. (I'm looking at you KH dressing; even though I'm partly compliant with that. Joshua's presence is justifiable however, as I explained to Ryune. Even so, I'm probably going to start the WEWY dressing room soon.)

Shibuya =/= Twilight Town. As someone who's been to Tokyo, I can safely say it has more in common with The World That Never Was. This isn't even my known bias coming in - it's just TRUE, ok? Twilight is more like Northern California than anything else.

Neku =/= Sora. LET ME COUNT THE WAYS:
---Sora: A cheerful, upbeat boy who grew up on a small isolated island. Sora really loves his friends and believes firmly in the power of friendship no matter what.
---Neku: A depressive, angry misanthrope who grew up in the rush of downtown Tokyo. He feels that people absolutely suck and that he wants nothing to do with any of them, and kinda wishes they'd go away and leave him alone forever.

Shiki =/= Kairi.
---Kairi: A self-confidant young woman who believes in herself and her friends. Kairi knows who she is and isn't afraid to prove it to you (even if Nomura refuses to let her kick ass and take names)
---Shiki: On the surface, the same... it's just that then you find out that her price for joining the Reaper's Game was her own appearance and personality; her REAL self is a conservative, very shy, very under confidant geek.

Joshua =/= Riku, Xemnas, OR Zexion. I'm not even going to lay down the points.

Reapers =/= Nobodies. Reapers are VERY HAPPY being what they are and don't want to change at all. They're also JUSTIFIABLY nicer than the Nobodies in the end, as they really are just doing their jobs (see TV Tropes: Affably Evil and Punchclock Villain)

There ARE shared themes. I will freely admit that Noise are pretty much Heartless in every way, right down to some being natural and some being artificial. The game is about friendship and learning to believe in yourself, it just comes at it from the absolute OPPOSITE direction. Very similarly to KHI, WEWY starts out seeming silly and weird but gets deeper and deeper until the final dungeon has you going WAIT WHAT THE HECK DID YOU JUST DO TO MY BRAIN fdajpdajslfjdaw fda AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH. WEWY is, however, MUCH darker than KH (even than KHII. Seriously.) And... yeah.

don't get me wrong: WEWY is fantastic, and for those of you who are going "I DONT WANT TO BUY A DS FOR y750247592435723975/4572405723957 DAYS BOO", rest assured that WEWY gives you at least one other game to play on it - from what I've seen, WEWY looks like it's better designed anyway and is probably better written. I'm not very excited for Square's latest cash-in attempt here. Worst. Title. EVER. It is a VERY worthy game and in some ways it addresses uncomfortable themes that SHOULD have been adressed in Kingdom Hearts II, such as the nature of thought and memory and the fact that dark =/= bad and light =/= good (Dear GOD. The last bit is very, very, VERY hammered home. Telling how would be a spoiler though...)

But that does not make it Kingdom Hearts. Kthx, bai.

ooc, riku, sora, kairi
