I realize that "because it makes me cry" is not technically a valid reason, but...

...please, please, fandom at large, stop surgically removing the characterizations of my favorite sextet (hee hee I typed "sex" okay done now) of Nobodies.

I started typing one section for each of them, but then I realized: they all get hit with the same handful of grievous mischaracterizations, so it's a bit redundant.

Xemnas, Xigbar, Xaldin, Vexen, Lexaeus, and Zexion are none of them:

1. Fluffy bunnies. They have no emotions, and even if they have some, these emotions don't seem to get in the way of destroying countless worlds and emotionally destroying others for their own ends. Remember how they became Nobodies in the first place? With the letting the Heartless free and essentially destroying Radiant Garden?

2. Stupid. Their Somebodies were scientists, among the best in the world. Imagine the people who make the top-ten smartest scientists list around here. That kind of ridiculously smart. Only Vexen is shown being a scientist still, but it's a fair guess that IQ is not a function of the heart. I don't care how muscular they are, or how casually they talk: they are brilliant.

3. Helpless. They can summon weapons (which therefore can never be taken away from them), attack with various elemental powers and incredibly annoying special abilities, and, if it comes to it, simply teleport out of a problematic situation. Also, Zexion can break your brain. Spineless wonders they are not. There is no sign above their heads saying, "Attempting to rape this person will be the last thing you ever do," but there might as well be.

4. Emotional. They were the ones who studied the heart and the first to become Nobodies; therefore, they were the first to define what had happened to them. A Nobody is defined as a person who has lost his or her heart and feelings. QED, they were the ones who decided that they had lost the ability to feel. Convincing them otherwise would be an uphill battle at best.

5. Invisible. They are there all the time, even when it would be inconvenient/not pretty enough. Especially Lexaeus. He and Zexion are as close to friends as Nobodies get. If something is wrong involving Zexion and he or someone else doesn't go to Lexaeus about it, there had better be a very, very good reason why not. "He's already dead" is an acceptable if restrictive answer. "Because then there couldn't be healing sex" is not. Also inaccurate.

6. Rapists. At least, it isn't likely. I mean, why? Lust? Lust has nothing to do with rape, as everyone should know quite well. Jealousy? You're heading into emotional territory again. As a show of power? Possible, but they have other ways of doing that. Besides, 97% of the time they get shoved into that role without any explanation other than "just because". That is never a good explanation for anything.

While I'm on this soapbox, I'm co-mod of cor_sine_corde, a community dedicated to I-VI as a group and as individuals. We're just getting started, so if you're interested in rarepairs or even *gasp* genfic revolving around these six characters, I'd appreciate it if you'd swing by.
