On Self Mutilation.
Okay I know that this has been ranted about before this 'trend' is really pissing me off in more ways then one.
First off Self Mutilation and Suicide are extremely serious topics that should only ever be written by someone who has at least a basic idea of how deppression really works. THIS SHOULD ALSO NEVER BE USED TO 'THICKEN' THE PLOT. But this has been ranted to death so moving on to the main topic: Why in those pathetic OOC emo sobfests IS THE PREFERRED METHOD OF MUTILATION ALWAYS CUTTING? There are more ways then one to scar yourself. Not to mention that slitting ones wrists is a messy and slow way to die. AND NOW FOR THE ALTERNATIVES!
First example: Matches. Nearly every household has them and it's much easier to burn yourself then it is to saw at your arteries with a butter knife. Added bonus of not having to clean up any blood afterwards.
Second example: Rather than using your friendly neighborhood razor blade why not just smash a lightbulb and use those shattered little pieces? Should said suicidal character run into someone they love afterwards they can always say 'it was an accident' and blow it off.
Third example: Electrocution. A bath and a well placed hairdryer can do the trick.
Fourth example: Hanging. It is shocking to walk into a room and see a body hanging from the stairwell.
Fifth example: Self destructive battle techniques. The KH charaacters do a lot of fighting so it would be fairly simple for someone full of self loathing and hatred towars the world to jump into the middle of a giant mass of enemies and attack wildly without bothering to heal themselves.
Sixth example: Pills. Most households have at least one bottle of Tylenol in the kitchen cabinet. This is a messy and slow way to die usually involving loss of muscle control.
My point being that if you have time to write a badfic, you have time to think about what you're writing and find a way for your character to die that fits with his/her personality. For example I highly doubt that Sora would impale himself on his Keyblade and sprawl meodramitcally in the middle of Kairi and/or Rikus' kitchen. He seems like the type of person who wouldn't want to make his friends suffer and would probably commit suicide in a way that made it seem like an accident.
