Uh, I'll argue that. Granted, the stories that were introduced were a bit darker - face it, Simba's angsting over Mufasa is DEEP SHIT (it IS Hamelt, after all), and it's not your standard fluffy disney luff
( ... )
I'm under the impression some people in English Literature class didn't believe when the teacher said that.
She suggested my group to make a stand about TLK on the Language Arts fair thingie about The Lion King and I was "HELL, YES!'' I even had in mind how the stand would be: there would be a huge picture of Simba talking with Mufasa in a cloud in one of the walls. I think I even knew someone who had TLK plushies!
Unfortunately, my teacher and I seemed to be the only ones who enjoyed this idea, so I didn't managed to do it.
In my years of being in the Disney fandom and just loving Disney in general, I've learned no matter WHAT you say or do? You're never going to convince people that Disney ISN'T JUST happy fluffy bunnies.
No matter how many words you use and how great of an explanation you come up with, people are never going to see it. I partially understand this because the company itself upholds these images (for the most part. Don't get me started on that fucking Disney Princess line), but I find it amazing people can find all the serious depth and character development in the world for shows such as Avatar by Nickelodeon, but can't see past that big Disney logo to recognize people like Cinderella or Simba are just characters, too :/

lol, I just had a hilarious mental image of a teenager in mouse ears sitting at a table with some Sephiroth cosplayer and a Bleach otaku looking all pouty.

My favorite Shakespeare play has to be Taming of the Shrew.
