I'm new here, but I've paged through some of the rants and find myself asking a question.
Exactly what is a Mary Sue?
No, I'm not stupid. No, I haven't been totally deaf to the complaints people have had against Mary Sues.
A Sue is a perfect female character, everyone loves her, blah blah blah. That's the obvious part. I'm talking about those teensy thin lines that seperate a decent OC from a Sue. Where do you guys draw 'em? Just asking for opinions here, sorry if that isn't allowed or anything.
My definition? An impossibly perfect OC that's sparkly, colorful, has it all. Either she has too little flaws or too many flaws (like she's been raped or somesuch), but either way everyone loves her to little bits and pieces and the characters the author finds hot all want to date/marry/fuck her. In this fandom, usually Sues are Keyblade wielders or are related to villians, but y'know, it goes for anything. Sometimes the requirement of keeping canon characters OC is pushed aside for the needs of the Sue.
What say you?
