I say both 'hear, hear' and 'look the hell out,' because you have to know you're gonna get a lot of shit for this. :\ Might wanna turn off your email alerts. ♥

You're very brave. ♥ And you know, you make a good point, too. It seems like ranting has gone from being a way to express your frustration to being practically a profession or a way of life. Everything in moderation, you know?

Definitely. It's one thing to complain - hell, we all do, and we all need to. I definitely can't blame anyone for complaining, because there is so much to bitch about when it comes to fandom. It's just - like you said - everything in moderation.

Brave .. ? I try ._.;

I believe you do have a good point, but let me step up for a moment.

I don't think that we're exactly complaining, but rather we're stating what we would like to see and what we would not like to see. I only got into the fandom once KH2 came out, so I don't know if it's been worse or better than before, but that's not going to stop me from reading and writing fanfiction. And I do believe you are being a bit too steryotypical - I write a lot more than I do rant because quite honestly, writing is a whole lot more fun. Maybe some people here do complain too much, but the main difference is that we offer ways to improve writing and characterization as well. I believe that many entries in this community give good, thoughtful messages that define who the KH characters are, why it is better to write them in character, and why avoiding cliches and OOC is generally better. After all, just purely ranting is boring.

"Yes, in some ways, the harsh critiques found in many rants can help. Rants about OOC tendencies, and that sort of thing - those are okay. It’s when every one of those rants has some sort of offhand comment about “O NOZ DEMISE FOR OUR KH FANDOM!” or “As I was strolling through the Pit” . . . that’s when people are affected for the worse.
"

I get your point. And, honestly, the people here in this community make a lot of sense with their commentary on the fandom. It's just .. where is it all going? =/

I mean, I'm incredibly active on fanfiction.net, and I know that a lot of extremely talented people have given up on the KH fandom, because people on livejournal and ffnet are getting extremely negative about the situation.

What people say here is not wrong. However, many of the messages are directed at people who won't even read them, and where's the point in that?

There is no point other than to get it off our chests. I can't believe anyone would think there was a point to ranting.

You've never read a fic that just sat wrong with you and stuck in your mind and you just wanted to make it go away? Ranting helps with that. At least that's what it does for me. I get burned by bad fic, I rant and am able to get past it and bury it, if not delete it completely from memory.

I doubt negative views are the only reason people are leaving the fandom. Interests change, you know. I haven't really written for KH recently, but not just because of the fandom. If they are leaving, then I'd say it was more they themselves were fed up with it and that's their right. Everyone moves on to other fandoms at some point. Sometimes they come back a few months or a year later. Sometimes they don't. It is the nature of fanfic. :/

Seriously? I would never leave what I love behind just because I don't like what's happening in it. It's truly a sad thing if great writers leave the fandom. But, I don't think that has any connection to us. If they leave, it's their choice. We have no influence if they decide to leave the fandom because we're not the ones writing bad fanfiction.

And in truth, the people to whom we direct these messages do sometimes come here. I know that one author's fic got sporked at khspork, and she found it, but she took the criticism and even commented, thanking everyone for making her realize that her writing needed to be upgraded. So it's not all a lost cause.

for what it's worth, this is exactly why I try to give concrit to fics I think have real potential, and then work on writing good, IC fic in areas I feel there's really not enough of it.

I mean, I think it is good to have a place where we can rant and bitch and scream about the things that do annoy us, as long as when we do go out into the fandom, we're trying to do better by it.

I'll be the first to tell you that I don't write for this fandom. If I get a really persistent plotbunny? Maybe. But most of my interest in KH, as far as contributing to the fandom, is gone. Aside from that, some of us don't write in the first place.

So will that stop me from bitching if I want something nice to read and can't find it? No.

I understand what you're trying to say, and I know the attitudes you're talking about can be irritating, but really. This is a rant community. It's for letting off steam when we're angry with our fandom at that moment. It is not Serious Business.

I will write fic whenever I feel like it. I will whine and complain whenever I feel like it. If someone doesn't like it, I'm sorry, but too bad.
